The Arizona Cardinals continued with their second team organized workout of the week on Tuesday morning, but the practice routine involved more game-like situations including a two-minute drill where with one second on the clock, quarterback Josh McCown connected with Anquan Boldin for a Hail Mary touchdown.
“It was hard work out there today,” said Head Coach Dennis Green. “The guys are working very hard. We are trying to do a lot of things we would do during the course of the season and using these last two weeks to do that.”
Joining the team for the morning workout was newly signed quarterback Chris Lewis. Lewis replaces quarterback Preston Parsons who was released early last week, but Green says Lewis will be the fourth string quarterback.
“You need four for training camp,” said Green. “I think we’ve said who the number one is, Josh McCown, number two is Shaun King and number three is John Navarre, and we felt if we were going to have a number four guy, it should be a young guy, a first year player who may make the practice squad or may not, but going in, he’s going to be the fourth guy.”
Cornerback Duane Starks continues to work more in practice to test his reconstructed knee.
“It is time for me to start getting back into the game,” said Starks. “I’ve got about a month and a half left so time is flying by. I’ve got this defense down pretty well because it is similar to what I did back in Baltimore, but I need to get my confidence back. I’m really excited about the defense and how guys have picked their games up.”
Cornerback Renaldo Hill (wrist), defensive end Riall Johnson (groin), linebacker Levar Fisher (knee) and running back Josh Scobey (hamstring) did not practice.
Linebacker Raynoch Thompson and receiver Karl Williams were excused from practice for personal reasons.
