I'd like to see Salty stick around for a little while. I'd send down the fight doctor! ;)

Cool. I wonder if Leone comes straight to Phx or if he goes to Reno for a spell first... He had just been brought back up by the M's.

On the radio they speculated that they might bring Blair up from Mobile. He's been pitching pretty well as of late sitting on a decent ERA and WHIP. I saw him pitch in spring training and I like him. He has no fear. His fastball is not overpowering but he can run it up to 96 when he gets pumped up.

I had high hopes for Shipley after spring training, but he's getting knocked around in Mobile and is not coming up anytime soon.

Everyone send positive healing mojo to Corbin and Hernandez and we'll make a run at this thing!

Tomas will be no worse fielding RF than Trumbo.
That's my point, not exactly a ringing endorsement. We paid way too much for what he is producing. I wished we would have stuck with the younger guys we had and saved the $ we are giving to Tomas. We have a handful of guys eating up and salary cap (not Goldy) even after trading Trumbo.

PLAYER POS BASE SALARY SGNING BONUS

Aaron Hill 2B $12,000,000 - - $12,000,000
Yasmany Tomas 3B $1,879,781 $3,500,000 - $ 5,379,781
Brad Ziegler RP $5,000,000 - - $ 5,000,000
Addison Reed RP/ $4,875,000 - - $ 4,875,000
Jeremy Hellickson SP $4,275,000 - $ 4,275,000
Cliff Pennington SS $3,275,000 - - $ 3,275,000
Paul Goldschmidt 1B $3,000,000 $83,333 - $ 3,083,333

In addition Arroyo is eating up 9.5 mil on the DL. It is easy to see why they want to trade Hill.

It will be interesting to see what TLR does from this point on.

Tomas will be no worse fielding RF than Trumbo. I believe his potential to get comfortable out there is better.

This solves the problem when Lamb returns to 3B.

And opens the door for O'Brien's power bat to compete for RF and hit behind Goldy. I think we are going to see him here quickly.

With Tomas' batting average but lack of power so far, it could be a real battle.

Doubt they made this move with o'brien in mind, but I'll play along.

Scenario: lamb comes back from injury and he just isn't producing at the plate at all, they move Tomas back to 3rd and bring o'brien up and he basically gets RF.

The reason I doubt that however is because with lamb at 3rd that pushes Tomas to left. Tomas isn't a terrible fielder, but all Lamb has to do it hit .270 and as a package he's a better 3rd baseman

I wouldn't be so quick to discount David Peralta in LF. And he is a left-handed bat. Perhaps a platoon. Or the 4-man starting outfield rotation that has been in place all season.

Ender is cooling off so I bet they platoon in left, and Peralta can't hit lefties

Can any of them play catcher?

Wellington Castillo was acquired in the trade, a catcher known for his defense.

He was just traded to the Mariners, it makes me think they got a super bargain they couldn't pass up even tho they didn't want or need him

When is Goldy's contract up? He is going to be cashing in when his new contract comes in, especially if he keeps putting up the numbers he has

Signed through 2018 wit a club option for 2019. Unrestricted free agent in 2020.

4 more years after this one with MVP calibre first base play

If he was an unrestricted free agent this winter he'd get $200 million easy.

Inciarte is a classic leadoff hitter. Poke the ball to the opposite field. Hit it up the middle. With an occasional shot to the outfield.

His chance of cooling off for a period of time is less than any other hitter on the team, because he is not just going up swinging. And his batting average vs. lefties is just two points less than vs. righties.

The combo of Inciarte/Pollock/Goldy at 1-2-3 has to be among the best in the league. A classic leadoff man followed by two natural hitters.

And I REALLY like the idea of Tomas at 4.

His slugging percentage of .414 ranks 6th on the D-backs.

So far we haven't seen a sign of his feeling comfortable enough to show power.

His BAVG and OBP are great, but we need power from him, especially hitting behind Goldy.

I am beginning to feel disappointed with my boy Chip Hale's philosophy of everyone's a starter. It may keep them fresher, but having the players at 2B, 3B, LF, CF and RF competing with each other for playing time . . .

. . . well, perhaps the players with some time under their belt can make it work, while giving them regular rest.

But is it the way to develop young talent like Tomas? I think not. Especially with Lamb coming back at 3B and three solid outfielders. At least replacing Trumbo in RF should have him starting 3 out of every 4 games.

Time will tell.

Did Trumbo bash the Diamondbacks today or something? They did a teaser on 620 saying; you won't believe what a player who was just traded said about the Dbacks

But I couldn't stick around to hear the story

The comments from Trumbo yesterday were definitely not that... In fact, he was extremely bummed out about the trade. Said over and over again how much he loved the team, the players, the coaches... Said he really became part of the "family". I would be shocked if he totally recanted on those comments today...

This is all I saw (may be more comments I haven't seen).

"It's a bit of a shock," Trumbo said. "You get comfortable somewhere and you develop a rapport and you have great teammates and if you're removed from that situation, it's tough."

Acquired in a three-team trade before last season, Trumbo hit .243 with 23 home runs and 84 RBI, along with 128 strikeouts, in 134 games with the team. A power bat, he spent time manning both corner outfield spots as well as first base.

The 29-year-old said he was aware of the rumors saying the D-backs needing to make a move to clear up a logjam in the outfield, and while he tried to block it all out, he knew there was probably some truth to it all.

A member of the Los Angeles Angels before the D-backs acquired him, Trumbo said he hopes his familiarity with the AL West will help him when he gets to Seattle.

His time in Arizona was brief, and it will likely be remembered with mixed reviews. He was every bit the power hitter everyone expected, while also bringing mostly adequate defense and a lot of strikeouts.

"I've tried to do what I can and be the player that I am," he said. "I guess I provide kind of what I do. I'm pretty consistent in what I do and I always want to get better. Some teams find that attractive, some people might not. I think I just pride myself in trying to be me and give a good effort each and every day and bring things that fans might not see every day as well behind the scenes a little bit."

I can see being annoyed as he may have just started to feel at home... but gimme a break Trumbo. You're a "slugger" who can't get on base and only hits homers once in every 20 ABs.

If you're a one tool player that one tool had better be elite, for him it isn't.
