On a side note, did you know that Corey Dillon rushed for 222 yards in the first quarter against San Jose State? Unless that's a typo, that's insane.

I've got some conflicting info here.

One place says NCAA started in 2000. But a site questioning whether or not Washington's 13 sacks against Utah State in 1998 was a record or not, references 1982 as the year that sacks records began. That may just be for Washington, not the official NCAA.

It may have been the PAC-10 that was keeping that record.

Here is the NCAA record book and it says since 2000

Well, if it's from Washington State, it must be true! We Washingtonians don't lie...do we?

The first year the NCAA tracked sacks at the national level was 2000 - Michael Josiah of Louisville led the nation with 1.39 sacks per game.

Certainly teams and individual confernces may (and probably did) track it long before then.

I remember you saying 2000 a while ago.

That would make 24 a little....... ahem....... blown out of proportion? I think the notion that Suggs is the best college pass rusher of all time can probably be put to rest.

I like Suggs. I really do. But his offseason has sucked. In every way.

I think the site I saw is only referencing Washington's sack records. The NCAA records appear to start in 2000.

No wonder I was more confused than normal. I could never understand how Thomas Burke had 22 sacks his senior season in 1998, yet Suggs broke the old sack record of 17.5 this season.

That's actually what made me look for it.

And what was really amazing was he did it in ONE carry (-:

Or as Steve Martin would say about the MonaLisa "not many people know this but he painted that with one stroke."

I remember the papers the next day after Dillon did that talking about how Dillon was bigger than any of the SJS linebackers. One of the personal trainers at my gym was on that SJS team he said it was like watching a kid dominate in Pop Warner football or something.
