Kalamazoo Loy Norrix offensive tackle Jakari Lipsey is one of the top recruits in the state, and Michigan’s new staff has been working on building the relationship with him.

Lipsey was offered by the previous staff, and while not all of those offers would be honored by this current staff, he is one that is still on the board. Offensive line coach Jim Harding has come in and carried on the relationship Grant Newsome began.

The 6-foot-5, 290-pound four-star will take an official visit to Michigan on June 5-7.

"Yeah, they've been talking to me a lot,” Lipsey said. “I've been talking to the offensive line coach, Coach (Jim) Harding. He came by the school."

Loy Norrix has not had this level of football recruit since T.J. Duckett was nationally recruited in the 1999 class.

Programs from every corner of the country have recruited Lipsey. In addition to Michigan, he has officials set with LSU, Wisconsin and Minnesota. He is expected to visit schools for spring practices, and Michigan should be one of those. Missouri and Auburn are other candidates.

Lipsey is considered on the raw side, but his athleticism is easy to see. He played on Norrix’s basketball team and easily gets off the ground and dunks at his size. He is also an excellent thrower on the track and field team.

As a result, Rivals gave him a lofty top-100 ranking nationally.

“Lipsey has the look of a high-upside offensive tackle prospect,” Rivals scouting director Charles Power said. “There are some encouraging signs that he has the physical and athletic traits we look for in projecting prospects at the position. Lipsey is an easy mover on Friday nights. He has quick feet in his pass sets and is effective when working to the second level as a run blocker. We also like his balance. Lipsey plays with a strong base and is able to generate power through his core as a run blocker. That skill likely goes hand-in-hand with his ability as a thrower in the shot put and discus in track and field.”

Lipsey camped at Michigan last summer. then attended Michigan’s game against Central Michigan.

He says he has “always loved Michigan since I was a kid.”

Now he will get to see if the Wolverines can hold on to that through official visit season.

Offered CB sets Michigan visit

Michigan will host Massillon (Ohio) Washington cornerback Deontay Malone for a visit March 21.

The Wolverines only just offered in February and this will be Malone’s first time on campus.

A physical 6-foot, 180-pound prospect, Malone also has offers from Ohio State, Pittsburgh, Michigan State and more.
