Kyle Whittingham made it a point when he was hired to shepherd the Michigan football program that he plans to recruit heavily in-state. Though he inherited one player from Michigan, three-star interior offensive lineman Louis Esposito from Saline, thus far, he has taken players from all around the country.

But on Saturday, Whittingham secured his first in-state prospect, and it's a big one.

Ranked No. 66 overall by 247Sports, 2027 Kalamazoo (Mich.) Loy Norrix four-star offensive tackle Jakari Lipsey is a recruit who's got some big-time offers. Though he was looking mostly regionally -- at Wisconsin and Minnesota -- LSU was thoroughly in the mix. However, on Saturday, he pledged his commitment to the maize and blue.

The scouting report via Rival's Allen Trieu:

Three-sport athlete who excels as a thrower in track and field and is a good high school basketball player. Can get up and dunk at his size. Has played both ways in high school and was looked at as a defensive lineman some early on. Still very raw in his technique. Needs to be more consistent play to play as well. Offer possibilities at guard and tackle, and has huge upside but needs diligence and development in order to reach that high ceiling.

247Sports has Lipsey as the ninth-best offensive tackle in 2027 and the second-best player in the state of Michigan. He's listed at 6-foot-5, 290 pounds, and also had offers from Auburn, Kentucky, MSU, Missouri, Tennessee, UCLA, and others.
