It will be a big recruiting week at Michigan State.
With many high schools on spring break, the Spartans will get a number of out of state prospects on campus for spring practices Thursday and Saturday.
Thursday, Shakopee (Minn.) linebacker Blake Betton will visit.

This will be Betton’s first visit to Michigan State. Assistant head coach Levar Woods conducted a home visit with Betton in January. The good news for the Spartans is that Betton has a long running relationship with Woods from when he was at Iowa. However, this recruitment is an uphill battle as Nebraska, Penn State and others have strong relationships here.
Heavily-recruited sophomore defensive end Kameron McGee will also visit on Thursday. A standout at Chicago Brother Rice, the 6-foot-3, 235-pound McGee is a consensus Top 60 national prospect. He is considering Notre Dame, Ohio State, Georgia, Michigan, Miami and others. Head coach Pat Fitzgerald and defensive line coach Winston DeLattiboudere have gotten the Spartans into this race.
On Saturday, two four-star recruits will visit in Columbus (Ohio) Academy’s Reinaldo Perez and Lennox (S.D.) tight end Drake Mikkelson.
The early expectation was that Perez, an explosive 6-foot-5, 260-pound edge defender, would stay right there in Columbus and be a Buckeye, but he has taken a variety of visits and given programs outside of Ohio a real opportunity. He has been to Michigan State in the past but this will be his first chance to spend extended time with this staff.
Mikkelson is considering Wisconsin, Minnesota and more. A 6-foot-5 pass-catcher, he was one of the earlier offers for this new Spartan staff. In the 2026 cycle, MSU pulled off an upset out of South Dakota with tight end Eddie Whiting and will look to do it again here.
Another Ohio defensive end visiting is Munir Lewis from Lyndhurst Brush, a 6-foot-4, 235-pound pass rush specialist. Like Perez, Lewis has an Ohio State offer, but the in-state Buckeyes are not a lay-up. Michigan State and Louisville are the biggest challengers but Purdue, Illinois and Vanderbilt are among the schools still making attempts.
Two East Coast receivers, Johnstown (Pa.) Richland’s Arnold Mugerwa and Ramsey (N.J.) Don Bosco Prep’s Isaiah Alvarez, will visit. Both hold Spartan offers. Alvarez, a smooth route runner at 6-foot, 175 pounds, has an official visit set with Michigan State for June 19. Mugerwa, a physically strong 6-foot-3, 197-pound prospect, has three officials (Wake Forest, Rutgers and Virginia Tech) but not Michigan State yet. Getting him set for one will be a priority.
Jersey City (N.J.) St. Peter’s Prep safety Ty’Ire Clark has a Michigan State offer and visited in January.
Tyler Trusel, a sophomore receiver/defensive back from Birmingham Brother Rice in Michigan is one of the top young recruits visiting on Saturday.
