Michigan State has added a commitment from Bloomington (Illinois) Central Catholic linebacker Matthew Brady on Wednesday morning.
Brady, a 6-foot-4, 220-pound rising senior, took an official visit with Michigan State over the weekend and chose the Spartans over Northwestern, Minnesota, Illinois, Nebraska and others. He has canceled his remaining officials with the Illini and Huskers.
"It was a great opportunity for me to be a part of something special and get the program back to dominance," Brady said.
The Spartans offered at the end of April, then defensive coordinator Joe Rossi and linebackers coach Max Bullough conducted an in-home with Brady in mid-May. Prior to that, Brady attended a spring practice at MSU. Bullough, Rossi and head coach Pat Fitzgerald all played a role in making Brady feel comfortable.

He also likes the way he fits into their scheme.
“They run a 4-2-5, so they like me at WILL linebacker,” Brady said. “I think it could vary a little bit. It kind of depends on how I develop, and in a third-and-long situation I could play MIKE, so it’s kind of that field general type of position.”
Brady initially was recruited by schools as a quarterback and still plays that spot for his high school. He then began being recruited more as a rush end. Once schools shifted to recruiting him as an off-ball linebacker, his spring offer run began.
In addition to his size, Brady reports a 4.5 40. He tested and performed well at the recent Under Armour Regional Camp in Chicago.
Rivals rates Brady a three-star prospect and has him the No. 70 linebacker nationally.
Michigan State now has eight commitments in their 2027 class.
