The Boston Red Sox have been the best team in Major League Baseball over the past month or so, and that's without factoring in some of the injuries to the veterans they've dealt with.

Playing without Garrett Crochet, Trevor Story, and others dealing with injuries throughout the past month or so, it's fun to think about how good this team can truly be when healthy.

Speaking of Story in particular, though he's struggled a bit at times in Boston, he also had a really impressive 2025, posting a 4.1 bWAR and hitting 25 home runs and driving in 96 runs.

He only posted a 104 OPS+, which is below average for his career, and he was struggling a ton in 2026 in 41 games, but the hope is that he can get healthy now.

According to the latest, there's a chance he could return by the end of August, and it should give Boston a chance to see what type of player he is.

“Story may return by the end of the month, giving the Red Sox some runway to figure out the caliber of player he is — the star-level performer from last summer, or the shell of that from early this year, when he was dealing with a sports hernia that required surgery,” Tim Healey wrote.

There's always the side that suggests Boston shouldn't fix what isn't broken. The Red Sox have obviously been the best team in baseball in the second half, and bringing Story back to the lineup could cause some problems.

However, this is still a guy who has done a ton throughout his career, earning two All-Star nods, winning two Silver Slugger Awards, and, mainly, being a very good player for a long time.
