Philadelphia Phillies infielder Trea Turner retains the confidence of manager Don Mattingly.
"Trea's gonna be fine over the course of the season," Mattingly told 97.5 The Fanatic. "He's gonna hit one of those stretches where you're like, okay, Trea, he's back.
"I feel good about Trea."
He's one of the few.
After going 0-for-4 during Sunday's Phillies' 4-0 loss to the Milwaukee Brewers at American Family Field, Turner's batting average dropped to .219. His .598 OPS, entering Sunday, ranked 10th worst among qualified batters.
It's also the lowest OPS of any 65-game stretch of Turner's 12-year major league career.
Phillies' Trea Turner continues to struggle on offense, defense
As a rookie with the Washington Nationals in 2015, Turner compiled 44 plate appearances and produced a 69 OPS+. That was a career low. Until 2026. Through his opening 67 games and 296 plate appearances this season, he tied that mark. As a full-time big-leaguer, the three-time All-Star never produced an OPS+ below 100.
Mattingly retains confidence in the two-time batting champion and Silver Slugger award recipient. The 2019 World Series champion batted .304 with 15 home runs and 69 RBI in 141 games last season.
As the Phillies (38-33) continue to recover from April's 10-game losing streak, they dropped eight games behind the AL East-leading Atlanta Braves on Sunday.
With Turner scuffling on offense and defense. Through 67 games, he committed seven errors. He had eight in 2025. Producing a career-best 12.0 range factor per nine innings in 2016, Turner posted a 3.80 mark this season.
How long will Mattingly retain confidence in Turner?
