Heisman trophy winner Travis Hunter's father will join him at the 2025 NFL Draft after being granted permission by a Florida court.

Travis Hunter Sr. will travel to Green Bay, Wisconsin for the NFL Draft, which begins on on Thursday, April 24, one day before the event, according to court documents obtained by the Palm Beach Post. He is required to return to Boynton Beach, where Travis Jr., 21, was raised, on Friday, following the first day of the draft, and is confined to the grounds of his hotel and the draft's venue at Lambeau Field.

According to the Post, Travis Sr. is currently serving a three-year probation with the first year under home confinement stemming from a 2023 arrest for gun and drug charges. He was sentenced to 90 days in September 2024, the outlet said.

Travis Sr. was not in attendance when his son won the Heisman trophy in December. He was reportedly released from Palm Beach County West Detention Center in Belle Glade nine days before the ceremony, but opted to stay home so his mom — Travis Jr.’s grandmother Shirley Hunter — could attend instead, according to The Palm Beach Post.

“He just wanted me to go in his place because I hadn't been [to New York] and he wanted me to go instead of himself," she told the outlet after the Heisman ceremony.

Shirley spoke to the Post again after her son was granted permission to travel for the draft, telling the outlet she's "proud" that her Travis Sr. will watch his son be selected. "I'd rather him be up there to be with his son than me. That's his first son," she said.

He continued, "Dad, I love you. All the stuff you went through, man, look at your older son. I did it for you, man. All the times that you didn't get to see me. When the times you came to see my games, from not seeing probably two games in high school to seeing me on TV every weekend and come to see me, man. That means so much to me. I know you wanted to be here and you can't, but trust me, I got you. I'm bringing the trophy home. I love you."

The soon-to-be NFL player also thanked his grandmother while accepting the prestigious award. "You're the person that got me to start playing football," he said to his grandmother from the stage. "You seen the vision before I even seen the vision. At four years old, you told me to go put on some pads. Go out in the front yard and play with your cousins."
