Trade Partners for trade down?

First I’d like to say I do NOT want to trade down. In a draft with fewer studs, we are in a position to get one-but—I am also afraid our fearless (or clueless) leader MO will be looking to trade down. As I also believe, there is a premium on next years “supposedly” strong draft class so who could MO look to to trade down with this years picks only.

There are 3 teams with 2 first rounders and if dropping more than a couple of spots, that would be the starting spot.

Dallas—most obvious—#3 for #12 & #20 & a possible 3rd day pick. Jerry is one of those guys that LOVES to make a splash and they are desperate for a stud pass rusher and are also known for drafting high end RBs. I would hate this because that’s too far to fall back. But if MO does this I guess we could just go BPA, BPA and at 34 BPA and cross our fingers at least 1 of the 1sts is really good and the other one is a starter

KC—they have #9 and #30. This one would be a little better because you have a shot at someone you really like dropping to 9 and then pick up another hopeful starter at 30

Saints—they picked up an extra pick after trading Waddle. So they have #11 and #30. I would take the Dallas trade over this one as it is 1 spot higher with the first pick but quite a drop with the 2nd. However I also think this is the least likely scenario seeing as the Saints have more holes than we actually do.

1 other one is the Giants at #6 and their high end 2nd rounder—no I would not take anything less, I would probably take this one if I was forced to take a trade down because we still get a possible BIG JOHN and the extra pick. We could also use the extra pick with our 2nd to trade back into maybe the middle of first round if someone else slides.

And if you say no one will part with 2 1’s that is wonderful because I would not take less and just make my pick at 3

The trade with Dallas is the most likely because Jerry is the only owner/GM who would give up a first to draft Love at #3. In this scenario, the Cards could take a good OT or edge and perhaps the Alabama QB. With the No. 2 pick in round 2, there should be an OT, edge or LB floating around for the Cards to snap up. Question is whether this would be better for the Cards than drafting a stud at No. 3 who would be an anchor for years into the future.

Cardinals need a lot of help. My dream scenario is to stay on the phone with Dallas and work it. Also get on the phone with Tennessee and tell them Dallas wants to trade up for Love. Trade #3 with Titans for their #4 and #35. We pick OL at #4 and if Simpson is available later in the round, trade both 2nd rounders to get back in. If they don’t want Simpson, double up on OL and get and edge/DL with 34 & 35.

Given his history of trading up, I think Mickey Loomis of the Saints is the most likely trade partner but we would probably only be getting a couple of twos and #7 back.

Not enough playing time. Mixed results in the time he did play. I still look toward next year for a QB and do everything in this draft to make us better elsewhere.

I hear you on the playing time. He wasn't able to beat out previous Alabama QBs in prior years. Maybe you're right. I will however say that he battled gastritis which led to weight loss and he a fractured rib along with elbow bursitis. The fact that he gutted those things out and finished the season, it somewhat impressive.

Honestly, I don't know. In the past I was on team Beck and he had surgery on his elbow before last year so i am sure he was a little rusty. At the end of the day, I hope whomver MLF believes in, I hope he is the right one.

Only interested in two picks this year if I can flip one for next year. I’m also interested in trading down more than once to stock capital for next year.

In terms of a trade down, I've had the Falcons-Browns trade for Julio Jones in the back of my mind for awhile in terms of a trade where we'd jump way back in the first round this year but pick up a future first rounder plus extra picks to try to build more young talent in the roster. I could see someone like the Patriots, Bills, Niners, or Texans making a move way up if they feel that there's one player at the top of the draft that could get them over the hump. It's worth noting that this trade worked out horribly for the Browns based on who they actually chose with those picks.

That trade was:

• Falcons Received: 2011 1st round pick (No. 6 - Julio Jones).
• Browns Received: 2011 1st round pick (No. 27), 2nd round pick (No. 59), 4th round pick (No. 124), 2012 1st round pick, 2012 4th round pick
