Niners Unlikely To Keep Stokes; Might Trade Streets

According to Matt Maiocco of the Santa Rosa Press Democrat, 49er GM Terry Donahue closed the book on Wide Receiver J.J. Stokes return. Donahue said, "It is unlikely J.J. will be back on the team." The 49ers are expected to be release Stokes in June at a salary-cap savings of $2.25 million.
Donahue did not rule out the possibility of trading Wide Receiver Tai Streets, who has been the subject of trade rumors. Donahue said that it would have to be "a very appealing offer". Speculation is that a second-round draft pick would be required for the Niners to part ways with Streets.<p>Is Streets worth a second rounder? Would we want to try to get Stokes when he is released?

Why does it have to be a "very appealing offer" when he is going to be cut? June 1st must not be on Donahue's calendar.

Wait till June 1st. We do not help out any team in our division. Period.

It is tough to do business with those in your division. It really doesn't happen too often if my memory is correct.

It's Stokes that's being cut - not Streets....

I think Streets value is low 2nd rounder. The Jets offered a 3rd round pick and the 49'ers indicated that they wanted a bit more. The #37 pick is too high for Street, because you have to remember that Streets is a restricted FA, meaning he'll be an unrestricted FA next year. If we can get an extention done I gladly give up next year's 2nd round pick.
