That whole kerfuffle over Tracy McGrady saying that Boston Celtics star forward Jaylen Brown was dissatisfied with his team? It turns out that this was only his opinion. McGrady stirred up quite the hornets nest with such words last week, his comments appearing to hint at a serious problem between the Georgia native and his ball club. That they came on the heels of a controversial streaming session in which Brown appeared to hint at how much he enjoyed a season that saw his costar on the wing, Jayson Tatum, mostly absent did not help the situation.

But then the Cal alum made a point of clarifying he did not mean such things in a subsequent stream that followed Celtics President of Basketball Operations Brad Stevens saying he was not aware of any friction between Brown and Boston as well. Now, we learn from McGrady himself that he had not had any conversations with the Celtics star, his friend and mentee, about him being unhappy in Boston, and that this was simply an observation. Speaking on a recent episode of NBC's "NBA Showtime," McGrady said, "so because I have a relationship with Jaylen, I know him and I know how he acts, right?"

"So watching this series, how it unfolds, watching the behavior change and (be) uncharacteristic of who I know Jaylen is," he added. "It looked like he was frustrated to me when you go into the media and you say some of the things that he said when he goes on his streaming platform (...)."

"This is me having a relationship with him," said McGrady. "This is this is not me having a conversation. I haven't talked to Jaylen at all about this – I just know my friend."

"And when I see certain things, I see frustration. So, after a 3-1 (series lead) loss to the Philadelphia 76ers, all this stuff is happening and I'm seeing what I'm seeing because I have a relationship with him. And I think people really not knowing that I'm part of the media, so if I see something, I'm going to speak about it and I think they ... haven't separated my friendship versus me being an analyst in talking about this. So, it was nothing that we had a conversation about. It's the things that I'm seeing my friend and what he's displaying in front of the media. And when you go into the press conference and you're talking about everything that transpires, when you say you find out 45 minutes (before) Game 7 that (Jayson Tatum) wasn't playing, as a player, I'm going to be frustrated about that. When you look at the roster or the lineup that was rolled out in a Game 7, as a player, I'm going to be frustrated with that. And that's me speaking."

"So, I don't know if y'all ... will have that same sentiment if your coach, the organization comes to you and says one of your guys, your main guy is not playing 45 minutes before a Game 7," he said. "How would you feel about that?"
