If you have seen the game of star Boston Celtics forward Jaylen Brown, and are old enough (or enough of a student of the game) to have seen how former Orlando Magic and Houston Rockets icon Tracy McGrady plays, you will likely have noticed that there is a through line between how the two forwards approach the game of basketball.

And that is no coincidence, given Brown grew up a fan of McGrady, and the two would later become friends as the latter mentored Brown through key junctures of his own career. Speaking to McGrady on a recent episode of his "Cousins" podcast with cohost (and McGrady's cousin) Vince Carter, the Georgia native broke down how he looked up to the now-retired NBAer in his youth.

"TMAC is my inspiration — one of my favorite players of all time," said the Cal alum. "I think I tagged him (on social media), and he responded."

"In that response, I remember he put: Remember humble and hungry," added Brown. "You probably can still find that tweet somewhere."

"Later, I played in my first All-Star game in 2020 or 2021. I had Adidas put that on the shoes, 'Remember Humble and Hungry' I wore the TMACs because I remember watching the All-Star game when Mac was wearing one red shoe, one blue shoe; how iconic that was."
