Tottenham Hotspur eye Barcelona’s 24-year-old versatile star as potential summer signing
In a surprising twist, Barcelona defender Eric Garcia has emerged as a target for Premier League side Tottenham Hotspur, according to recent reports from Fichajes.
Despite being highly regarded by manager Hansi Flick, the 24-year-old defender has struggled to secure a spot in Barcelona’s ideal starting XI, which has now prompted interest from clubs across Europe.
Tottenham, in particular, are drawn to Garcia’s technical profile and his previous experience in English football, having previously played for Manchester City.
Attractive option for the suitors
The fact that Garcia’s contract with Barcelona runs until 2026, with an option for him to leave next summer, has made him an even more attractive option in the transfer market.
The potential for a relatively low transfer fee of €20 million due to the contract situation could make him a bargain for the London-based club, who are keen to strengthen their defensive options.

Garcia, whose current role at Barcelona offers limited first-team opportunities, is reportedly open to a move in search of more playing time and continuity.
He is looking for a competitive environment where he can feel valued, and Tottenham’s young, ambitious squad under manager Ange Postecoglou could be the perfect fit for him.
A good opportunity for Garcia?
With a growing reputation for nurturing young talent, Spurs could offer Garcia the chance to play a prominent role, something he may not find as easily at Barcelona, especially with the club’s stacked defensive options.
From Barcelona’s perspective, while his exit would be a loss, the club’s financial situation could make a sale an attractive proposition.
Barça’s sporting directors may be open to letting the centre-back go if the deal is right, especially as they look to ease the financial burden while avoiding the loss of key players.
Garcia’s versatility in the defensive line, combined with his ability to progress the ball forward, is appreciated by Barcelona, but the fact remains that he does not have a permanent place in the starting XI, something that might force him to explore other avenues.
