Tory Horton reveals major details on last year’s season-ending shin injury

The mystery surrounding Seattle Seahawks wide receiver Tory Horton’s season-ending shin injury is no more.

In Friday’s media availability session, the second-year player out of Colorado State confirmed that the injury that ended his rookie campaign in November had actually happened several weeks prior.

“It was kind of weird,” Horton said. “It was about Week 3 I kinda started feeling my shin. I worked through it through a couple of games, got to Week 9, got it checked up, and found out there was a crack [in my tibia]. So I ended up getting surgery on it.

Tory Horton shed light on the shin injury that cut his rookie season short after six touchdowns in eight games. The Seahawks’ second-year receiver said he had a crack in his tibia, and that he had surgery to place a rod in it after the Super Bowl.

Horton said his injury “didn’t feel as bad as it got” until after the Commanders game, in which he scored two touchdowns in what was otherwise the best receiving performance of his young career. To repeat: Horton lit up the Commanders defense on a fractured tibia. And if he started feeling something with his shin in Week 3, that means it happened after a two-touchdown (one receiving, one punt return) day against the New Orleans Saints.

On the plus side, Horton recovered well enough to avoid starting training camp on PUP and is obviously on course to be ready for Week 1 of his second season. He was held out of one practice for maintenance/ramp-up reasons, but he’s otherwise been eager and quickly able to showcase what made him look like such a steal as a fifth-round pick.

While this injury is now hopefully in the rearview mirror, it’ll still be worth monitoring Horton’s health a little more closely moving forward, given his collegiate career ended with a knee injury and subsequent surgery. There
