Aug. 3 (UPI) -- The Los Angeles Angels agreed to trade pitcher Jose Soriano to the Toronto Blue Jays in exchange for three prospects, the teams announced Monday.

Toronto will send shortstop Arjun Nimmala, outfielder Eddie Micheletti and pitcher Angel Rivero to Los Angeles in the deal.

Soriano, 27, went 9-6 with a 3.29 ERA over his first 22 starts this season for the Angels. The four-year veteran has a 3.72 ERA for his career.

He will enter a Blue Jays rotation that ranks No. 8 in the American League, with a 4.33 ERA.

Nimmala, 20, is the No. 43 prospect in baseball, according to MLB Pipeline. He joined the Blue Jays as the No. 20 overall pick in the 2023 MLB Draft.

Nimmala is the Angels' No. 2 prospect. He hit .235 with 38 home runs, 68 doubles, 11 triples, 145 RBIs and 33 stolen bases over the first 282 minor league appearances of his career.

Micheletti, 24, was an eighth-round pick in the 2024 MLB Draft. He hit .244 with 30 home runs and 127 RBIs through his first 219 minor league appearances.

Rivero, 19, went 1-6 with a 3.66 ERA over his first 34 minor league appearances.

The Blue Jays (52-60) sit in last place in the American League East, 13.5 games behind the division-leading Tampa Bay Rays (65-46). They will meet the Houston Astros (58-55) at 8:10 p.m. EDT Monday in Houston.

The Angels (43-69) sit in last place in the American League West, 14.5 games behind the first-place Astros. They will face the Baltimore Orioles (54-58) at 6:35 p.m. Tuesday in Baltimore.
