Los Angeles Angels starting pitcher Jose Soriano was one of the bigger-named hurlers on the market, especially with the franchise potentially selling off and hitting the reset button. He's only 27 years old and has a 3.29 ERA and 127 Ks in 123 innings.
But who ended up with him at the MLB trade deadline? That would be the Toronto Blue Jays, who JUST dealt Kevin Gausman the night before. And they gave away one of their top prospects and one of the bigger young names. So what gives? We'll dive into that.

Blue Jays get: RHP Jose Soriano
Angels get: SS Arjun Nimmala, OF Eddie Micheletti, RHP Angel Rivero
OK, this makes a TON of sense to me. The Blue Jays are banking on bouncing back next year, and getting a young arm like Soriano right now is a step in the right direction for doing so. They have a great core -- especially when it comes to hitters -- so grabbing a starter who has proven he's a talent is huge. Giving up Nimmala (a top-50 prospect, per MLB.com) may feel like a lot, but I think I'd rather have Soriano if I felt my team would be back in contention in 2027. GRADE: B+
If this is a sign the Angels are tearing it all down, I love this move. Soriano got them back Nimmala, which is a great return. The other two prospects aren't in the top tiers of the Blue Jays' system, but no matter. This is all about getting back a future name who could be there to replace a certain shortstop who could be dealt by the afternoon in Zach Neto. GRADE: A-
