The MLB Draft is always a roller‑coaster for college coaches and fans. Highly touted commitments generate excitement, but history shows that if a prospect hears his name in the first three rounds, there’s a good chance he’ll never make it to campus. Texas A&M felt that sting again this year, losing two elite incoming talents in Trey Ebel and Conner Comeau, both of whom are expected to sign professionally.

But for Michael Earley, the draft didn’t end in all bad news.

Shortly after Day 1 wrapped, INF/P CJ Sampson announced on social media that he is withdrawing from the draft and will honor his commitment to Texas A&M. It’s a massive win for the Aggies, who add one of the most versatile two‑way players in the class, someone capable of competing for playing time the moment he steps on campus.

Sampson already looks the part of an SEC contributor. At 6'3" and 215 pounds, he brings big‑league size, strength, and power to all fields. Primarily a third baseman, his long‑term defensive home will be determined once he’s in the program, but his athleticism and arm strength give Earley options. And if last season proved anything, it’s that Earley isn’t afraid to shake up the lineup or trust true freshmen in meaningful roles.

For a program navigating the annual uncertainty of the MLB Draft, Sampson’s decision provides stability and a high‑upside talent who could become one of the most important additions of the 2026 class.

After a lot of thought and prayer, I’ve decided to attend Texas A&M and forgo the MLB Draft.

Thank you to everyone who supported me and to every MLB organization that showed interest along the way. Excited for what’s next!
