We are counting down the top 15 Kentucky Wildcats sports highlights from the 2025-26 year, looking at the moments that got Big Blue Nation celebrating. No. 8 comes to us from the baseball team, and specifically, outfielder Jayce Tharnish.

Kentucky baseball struggled during conference play, but managed to squeeze into the NCAA Tournament field in the Morgantown Regional. They opened up play with a very good Wake Forest team, and it would be a game for the ages.

Wake Forest jumped out to a 3-0 lead, but the Wildcats roared back, and took a 5-3 lead with a four-run sixth inning. Then, it was the Demon Deacons who answered, first tying things up, then taking the lead again with a run in the bottom of the eighth.

In the ninth, it was Tharnish's time to play hero. He singled to get on base, his first hit of the night. Then, with two outs, he stole second, then advanced to third when Wake Forest failed to cover the bag. Moment's later, a wild pitch allowed Tharnish to score what would be the game-winning run.

It was a thrilling victory for the Wildcats, and a huge moment for Tharnish. He was a key player for the team all season, but he saved his biggest moment for the postseason.
