Good move. Haley is the coordinator of the passing game and we had one of our best passing years in franchise history this season.

HALEY DECLINES DOLPHINS INTERVIEW by Michael David Smith

In another sign that people in league circles think the Dolphins have already decided to hire Tony Sparano as their coach, Cardinals offensive coordinator Todd Haley has declined the Dolphins' interview request and decided to remain in Arizona.

According to Adam Schefter of NFL Network, Haley cancelled his trip to Miami, where he was supposed to interview for the head-coaching position, and instead signed a contract extension with the Cardinals through the 2010 season.

Haley was a Cowboys assistant from 2004 to 2006 and worked in Dallas with Sparano and the new bosses in Miami, Bill Parcells and Jeff Ireland.

Although Haley has not publicly explained his decision to turn the Dolphins down, it stands to reason that if he thought he really had a chance to get a head-coaching job, he would interview for it.

I have a feeling Grimm will be here for a while as well. When you are getting paid well and are in a good position, sometimes making the cash grab isn't the best move if you will be in a bad situation. I haven't heard much noise regarding Grimm on NFL Live or NFL Network.

Well said! I was concerned we were going to lose him. I hope Grimm feels the same way ditto Pendergast. I would not be surprised if we lose Carthon to OC job at Miami..."blood is thicker than water" and Parcells has started bringing in his boys. Haley will get his shot somewhere one day.

Haley Earns Extension
Cards' offensive coordinator stays put with deal through 2010

Bill Parcells came calling for Todd Haley, but in the end, it was the Cardinals who answered.

Parcells, the new man in charge of the Miami Dolphins, had scheduled his protégé Haley for a head coaching interview in Florida. Before Haley could leave, however, the Cards gave their offensive coordinator a contract extension that puts Haley’s deal through 2010 and places his salary among the top-paid offensive coordinators in the NFL.

Financial terms were not released.

The Dolphins, who have already interviewed Cowboys offensive line coach Tony Sparano, Vikings defensive coordinator Leslie Frazier and Ravens defensive coordinator Rex Ryan, also wanted to bring in Haley.

But Haley and Cardinals coach Ken Whisenhunt met Monday to talk about the situation, and eventually the Cards offered Haley a raise to stay put. Haley then canceled his trip to Miami.

Ugh. Not really thrilled. Just because Parcells was courting him, they gave him an extension and a raise?? I'm sure he used it as leverage.

I love that we did this but what exactly is Todd Haleys role again? Wisenhunt was calling the plays, no? What would be his motivation to stay?

I am thinking part of his motivation was that Wiz offered him play calling duties as an added responsibility for next year. Just a hunch.

Ugh. I'm not either. They should have just let him walk so they could continue the assistant coaching carousel that was so prosperous under McGinnis and Green. I completely agree with your sentiments. Ugh.:sarcasm:

LoL, just for that, you get one of these...:trout:

Everyone knows Whiz calls the plays...so I don't see the hurry to extend him. There's just something about him I don't like...especially how he ripped into Warner that day and made poor Kurt use a curse word.

The way Kurt played that day he made 63,000 fans use a curse word.

Exactly. I think that is actually a point for Haley as someone needs to get in Warners face about turning over the freaking ball.

Furthering the contention I held earlier about Wisenhunt transitoning play calling duties.

Cardinals coach Ken Whisenhunt eventually plans to hand over play-calling duties to Haley, who has been an NFL assistant for 11 years.

Todd Haley signs extension
Make no mistake - this is very good news!

Two things to keep in mind regarless of your opinion of Haley and his role as OC:

Keeping the coaching staff intact (as much as possible) will do wonders for the team. We know well the effects of changing OC's every year. Stability of the staff will be especially beneficial to the development of the QB's.

The Bidwills have kept good on a promise to do what it takes (dollar-wise) to deliver a competitive team. Catch the line in the article about this extension making Haley among the highest paid OC's in the NFL.
That folks, is committment!

??????

Those two men were working. Yes, it is a "game". But only for fans. THe players and coaches are working in a high stress enviroment.

If you are not butting heads with people from time to time then you are not working.

I think the Cardinals have a new game plan. That plan is to try to keep things consistant. Keep the coaching staff together, keep the core players on the team together. Let chemistry grow within the organization.

I think this was a good move. I think Haley does a good job of implementing his weapons.

On a personal note, and this is based on nothing but gut instinct....I think there is a desire within this ball club to pull of the "impossible" and make the Cardinals winners.

its obvious that he was smart enough to realize that he had NO CHANCE for the HC job in Miami because of Parcells and the Sparano manlove, thus turning down the interview

much like the minority candidates in many interviews, he knew it'd be a fraud, and said no

in regards to Grimm.....I doubt he'll ever be a HC

he interviewed in 06 and 07 for the position with different teams and has yet to be hired....maybe he rubs the owners the wrong way as the potential man in charge

he's had oppurtunities, and you'd think that if he's a hot candidate, he'd be hired by now

very possibly, he'll end up as an Alex Gibbs type guy

If I was Haley I'd have gone on the interview just for the experience. This way he'll be better prepared when he eventually interviews for a HC job that he actually wants. Even if you don't think you're getting the job it never hurts to go in for an interview.
