Great article. Todd has done an exceptional job. I'm hoping that BA has been thinking about his replacement.

Bowles is 51 and has 4 children under the age of 12, including a 4 year old. His quote: “Anytime you’re a coach it’s difficult to raise a family because of the hours you put in,” he said. “So anytime you get some time off, you just want to take it easy, go to movies or go to Chuck E. Cheese" says a lot about him.

It makes you wonder if he wasn't think of this when he signed the new contract extension.

He is smart enough to know the hours he puts in as a head coach will be increased. He is in a great position here, new contract, more money and he loves his players and fans. Sure, he will be offered a head coaching job soon but he knows it is a completely different job than being a defensive coordinator and he is currently learning from a great one in Arians.

I'm not saying he will stay, but he knew he would most likely be offered a HC job when he signed the contract extension.

It will be interesting to see how this all plays out, but regardless, he is the kind of guy that we all wish the best for.

I'm thinking he doesn't get serious consideration for a HC gig any time soon.

The number one reason (hopefully not just wishful thinking) is that we go so deep into the playoffs, teams who are possibly interested move on.

I think it will play out like Horton's Rooney-rule tour.

There is a huge offensive mind-set in the NFL currently, I just don't see it.

Who was (or is currently) a defensive minded coach who became a head coach in the last 10 years and has succeeded?

I always forget that Carroll was a defense guy.

Pagano: Not enough data as HC, and with Luck as QB, I suspect it will be hard to determine how much of the Cot's success will be credited to him.

How are you defining success then? Playoff appearance? Super Bowl appearance and/or win? Eye-test? How about John Fox, Mike Tomlin, or Rex Ryan?
