The Tennessee Titans took to the field at Nissan Stadium on Friday night for their annual Blue & White Scrimmage, where Robert Saleh, most of his staff, and a ton of new faces made their first time onto the home field.
In what was an exciting evening of football, the Titans put on a show for the fans, and put in some solid work. Was it perfect? No, but it was an important step toward the start of the regular season.
Before the event, the Titans made some news when the agreed to terms with Peter Skoronski on a four-year contract extension, making him the highest paid guard in the league. They also received some good news on wide receiver Elic Ayomanor, who returned for the scrimmage after leaving practice early on Thursday with a shoulder injury.
Defensive lineman John Franklin-Myers was present, but didn’t suit up, and cornerback Joshua Williams took part, but was wearing a yellow precaution jersey.
With the practice in the books, here are some sights and sounds from the Blue & White scrimmage.
Head coach Robert Saleh ran onto the Nissan Stadium field for the first time as Titans head coach.
The Titans took to the field to get ready for the scrimmage and went through some drills and exercises. While this wasn't action packed, it was a great way to spark the early excitement.
Titans first round pick Carnell Tate showed off his wingspan and hands with this outstanding one-handed grab on the first-team offenses first drive, which stalled in the red zone, and was finished off with a Joey Slye field goal.
The Titans first touchdown of the scrimmage was a pass between Cam Ward and tight end Gunnar Helm. With all of the focus on the revamped receiving corps, Helm could surprise as a red zone threat.
The offense and defense went back and forth with the action.
Late in the scrimmage backup quarterback Mitch Trubisky hit Chimere Dike for a touchdown to cap an much-needed scoring drive.
With one of the drives stalling out, the offense was able to salvage a score when kicker Joey Slye connected from 48-yards. Although he made this kick, Slye struggled in the scrimmage a missed multiple field goals. It's still early in camp, but this may be something to monitor moving forward.
Any time players get active there are some bumps and bruises, and tonight was no different. During his post game media availability, Saleh pointed out that running backs Tyjae Spears and Kalel Mullings were the only players unable to finish.
After a late touchdown and field goal, the scrimmage was forced to go one extra down, and the defense pulled out the victory with the modified scoring system. It was good competition, and both sided of the ball flashed, although the defense, specifically the defense line, was a handful all evening.
