Jul. 20—MORRIS — A good Saturday helped the Bemidji American Legion softball team go .500 over the weekend in a Morris tournament.
After being shut out 3-0 against host Morris on Friday, the Titans won against Northern Ice 4-1 and Border West 6-5 on Saturday. Post 14 closed the tournament on Sunday with an 11-5 loss to Minnesota Breeze.
While Bemidji could only conjure up three hits against Morris, McKenzie Bullock had a good day in the circle. She pitched all five innings, giving up five hits, two earned runs and recording four strikeouts.
The Titans took advantage of Northern Ice's mistakes in their win on Saturday. Post 14 scored two runs on two passed balls in the same at-bat in the second inning. Jessa Anderson and Bullock also recorded RBI singles for Bemidji.
The following game against Border West was a back-and-forth battle, featuring six lead changes. Border West led 5-3 after a three-run fifth inning, but Bemidji responded with a three-run fifth of its own, leading to its 6-5 victory. Olivia Birt and Anderson recorded two RBIs each for the Titans.
Six errors committed by Post 14 on Sunday against Minnesota Breeze were the driving factor behind its 11-5 loss. Ridley Hadrava had the best day at the plate for Bemidji (18-8), going 3-for-3 with an RBI.
