The Boston Red Sox went eight games without scoring more than three runs prior to this week's road series against the Kansas City Royals.

The pitching staff and defense were able to keep Boston in games, but the hitting slump was becoming a real cause for concern.

Those questions were answered when wheels touched down in Kansas City. The Red Sox looked like a different team after Game 1.

The first game of the series was more of the same as Boston scored three runs off nine hits and held the Royals to just one run on the night.

The next night, the Red Sox lineup jumped all over the Royals' pitching staff. Wilson Contreras batted an RBI single in the first inning. Caleb Durbin swatted one to center field to score another runner in the second.

Boston hit a wall in the middle innings before expanding on a 3-1 lead and adding four runs in the top of the ninth inning . When it was all said and done, the Red Sox recorded 15 hits with Isiah Kiner-Falefa, Jarren Duran, Cedanne Rafaela, Wilyer Abreu and Wilson Contreras all contributing multi-hit nights.

The series finale proved that Game 3 was no fluke. Boston needed every one of their 11 hits to beat Kansas City 4-3 in come-from-behind fashion. Duran played hero with a two-run home run in the top of the seventh that set up Aroldis Chapman to record his 12th save of the year.

Boston recorded 35 hits in total throughout the three-game stop in the Midwest. The series felt like a real turning point in what has been a less-than-satisfactory start to the 2026 campaign.

The Red Sox got a day off on Thursday as they prepare to defend Fenway Park during a six-game homestand starting on Friday against the Minnesota Twins.
