Timberwolves Reportedly Have 'Strong Interest' In Trading For Celtics All-Defense Guard originally appeared on NESN. Add NESN as a Preferred Source by clicking here.
The Boston Celtics could be very busy this summer after getting bounced in the first round of the NBA Playoffs.
Not only are the Celtics expected to be searching for new talent to bring to their team, but they have plenty of attractive pieces that other teams could be looking to trade for. Among those pieces is veteran guard Derrick White. According to The Athletic's Sam Amick, the Minnesota Timberwolves are showing some interest in White.
"Similarly, league sources say the Minnesota Timberwolves — whose (Giannis) Antetokounmpo pursuit also appears to have cooled — have strong interest in the Celtics’ Derrick White," Amick wrote on Friday.
White joined the Celtics in 2022 when he was acquired from the San Antonio Spurs. He has been with the team for more than four seasons and was a key member of the Celtics' 2024 championship. He averaged 16.7 points in the playoffs that season, starting 19 games. He started 70 games in the regular season, being named All-Defense Second-Team.
He has been named to three All-Defense teams, earning First-Team honors for the first time last season. He averaged 16.5 points last season and has two years and a player option remaining on his contract. The Timberwolves are also contenders, and could use a player like White to complement Anthony Edwards.
