The Timberwolves trailed by eight in the final frame Sunday at Target Center, with their season hanging by a thread.
A loss would’ve put the Wolves down 3-1 in the series, facing low odds to rally to their third straight Western Conference Finals.
But, with Victor Wembanyama out due to a second quarter ejection, Minnesota was able to wear the Spurs out on the glass and get to the rim with relative ease to push past San Antonio for a 114-109 victory in Minneapolis to square the series at 2-2.
Game 5 is Tuesday in Texas. Tip time is set for 7 p.m.
Anthony Edwards sparked Minnesota when the offense was spiraling in the second half. The Wolves offense got stagnant. but Edwards was able to knock down a couple needed jumpers to jumpstart the offense.
He finished with 36 points.
Wembanyama’s ejection was due to an intentional elbow to the face of Naz Reid, which resulted in a flagrant-2 foul.
With Wembanyama out, the Spurs frequently went to small lineups that simply couldn’t rebound.
