The Minnesota Timberwolves have had a busy offseason, but their big trade was slightly delayed as it expanded to multiple teams.
While many offseason moves happened prior to the NBA Draft on June 23 and then once free agency got underway on July 1, the moves couldn't be announced until July 6, which is when the new season began.
On June 25, it was reported that Minnesota was trading for LaMelo Ball from the Charlotte Hornets. The deal wasn't officially announced until July 10, as it expanded from a Minnesota and Charlotte swap to include Minnesota's separate deal that sent Julius Randle to the Brooklyn Nets.
The full trade has Minnesota acquiring LaMelo Ball and Josh Green from the Charlotte Hornets in exchange for forward Naz Reid, a 2033 first-round pick, three second-round picks and three future first-round pick swaps. As part of the four-team deal, which includes the Brooklyn Nets and Chicago Bulls, the Timberwolves will receive the draft rights to guard Isaiah Evans from the Nets in exchange for forward Julius Randle and the draft rights to forward Joshua Jefferson.
The team will officially introduce LaMelo and Green to fans and the media on Tuesday, July 14.
The two will take questions and reveal their Minnesota jerseys.
Not every team holds an introductory press conference for new players who are acquired through trade or free agency. If a move happens in the offseason, sometimes media day is the first time new players will be able to speak about their new team, and if a move happens in-season, the next practice or game will be their first chance to speak.
For example, though Kevin Durant was acquired by the Houston Rockets before the NBA Finals concluded, he was not formally introduced by the team until media day in September.
Introductory press conferences will give some insight into the new players, but LaMelo and Green aren't rookies who are just looking to fit in with their new team.
LaMelo has never been traded before, and now he'll be tasked with leading a team alongside Anthony Edwards that has championship aspirations for the first time in his career.
He will likely express his excitement to play alongside another superstar guard and in a playoff environment, and could have a chip on his shoulder after being traded by Charlotte following a successful second half of the season that saw them climb into a Play-In spot and defeat the Miami Heat in the first Play-In game.
Expectations are high in Minnesota this upcoming season, and this press conference could set the tone.
