Sacramento, Calif. – Casey Mize will not make his scheduled start Friday night against the Athletics.
He’s not injured and he’s not been traded.
But, with the trade deadline 72 hours away, and the Tigers certainly entertaining trade offers for him, Tarik Skubal and possibly others, president Scott Harris decided to push Mize’s next start after Monday’s trade deadline.
Mize, who left his start early on July 19 with tightness in his groin and has had two groin-related injured-list stints this season, will make his next start against Seattle on Tuesday barring any trade.
The Tigers did the same with Jack Flaherty prior to the 2024 trade deadline when he was ultimately moved to the Dodgers.
The Tigers will deploy a bullpen game Friday night.
