The Detroit Tigers signed former Los Angeles Angels relief pitcher Nick Sandlin to a minor league contract on Sunday.

Sandlin, 29, signed with the Angels on a minor league deal, and got the call to the majors midway through April. His time with the Angels didn’t last long, though, as he had an 11.42 ERA through just 8.2 innings with the team. He allowed nine hits—two of which were homers—during that stretch, and saw 11 runs cross the plate on his watch.

The right-hander allowed two or more runs in five of his eight appearances on the season, letting two runs cross in each of his first three appearances in an Angels jersey.

The Angels designated him for assignment May 4, and he elected free agency shortly after on May 6.

Prior to 2026, Sandlin pitched four successful seasons with the Cleveland Guardians, posting a 3.27 ERA through 209 appearances with the club, and one season with the Toronto Blue Jays after Cleveland traded him, during which he had a 2.20 ERA through 19 appearances but spent a majority of the season on the injured list.

The Tigers have a decent bullpen at the moment, ranking 12th in MLB in terms of reliever ERA, meaning Sandlin will have to improve if he wants to get a look in at the MLB level this season.
