The Los Angeles Angels optioned relief pitcher Jose Fermin to Triple-A Salt Lake after Monday’s loss to the Colorado Rockies.
In a corresponding move, the Halos brought back left-hander Sam Aldegheri to assist their bullpen.
Fermin came into Monday’s game against the Rockies with a three-run lead, but allowed five earned runs in 0.2 innings to blow the game. The Angels eventually tied it up, but still lost after a late Rockies run.
Prior to his outing Monday, Fermin had a 2.51 ERA through 15 appearances in MLB this season. After his outing, though, his ERA swelled to 5.40.
Fermin, 24, has spent most of the last couple of years bouncing between Triple-A and MLB, largely due to his inconsistent performances.

Aldegheri’s return gives the Angels another left-handed arm in the bullpen, making him the third southpaw in the pecking order. He has made two appearances for the Angels so far this year, allowing three runs through 5.2 innings pitched.
His last appearance came in a start against the Chicago White Sox at the beginning of May, where he threw four innings and allowed two runs. He earned a win in his first outing of the season, where he pitched 1.2 innings and allowed one run against the New York Yankees.
Aldegheri is the No. 16 prospect in the Angels’ system, and will look to establish himself on the roster after coming up for one appearance just to go down for the last couple of years.
What do you think of the Angels’ decision?
