ANAHEIM, CA – The Detroit Tigers were in danger of losing minor-league pitcher Troy Watson to an overseas team.
To avoid that, they have purchased his contract and assigned him to Triple-A Toledo, where he had been pitching.
To make room on the 40-man roster, the Tigers moved relief pitcher Will Vest to the 60-man injured list.
“Does that mean anything for Will Vest?” a reporter asked.

“Doesn't really change anything,” Tigers manager A.J. Hinch replied.
But it does offer a clear answer that Vest won’t be back pitching for the Tigers anytime soon.
Vest was originally placed on the IL with inflammation in his elbow. Tests revealed that he had a stress fracture. Vest last pitched on June 27 against Houston. He threw one inning, giving up four hits and two earned runs.
Watson, a 29-year-old righty, has pitched in 15 games for Toledo, including 12 starts. He has a 2.88 ERA, striking out 39 in 56 1/3 innings.
