Sacramento, Calif. — The player to be named later in the Jahmai Jones trade has been named.
The Tigers completed the trade which sent Jones to the Boston Red Sox on July 14 by acquiring 24-year-old left-hander Jojo Ingrassia on Saturday.
Ingrassia, who was being groomed as a starting pitcher, was 2-1 with a 3.27 ERA and averaging 12 strikeouts per nine innings at High-A Greenville.
He is expected to report to West Michigan.
Ingrassia, a 14th-round pick of the Red Sox in 2023, was teammates with Tigers right-hander Troy Melton for two seasons at San Diego State. Ingrassia transferred to Cal State Fullerton in 2022 where he ended up closing games, posting a 5-2 record with a 2.42 ERA and seven saves.
In three minor leagues season, covering Low-A and High-A, he’s averaged 13 strikeouts per nine innings and just 3.5 walks per nine innings.
Some medical updates:
▶ Outfielder Matt Vierling, who strained his left adductor (groin), did not travel with the team. He is getting multiple medical opinions.
▶ Outfielder Wenceel Perez (left orbital bone fracture) was scheduled to begin a rehab assignment with Low-A Lakeland on Saturday.
▶ Left-handed pitcher Brant Hurter (lumbar spine inflammation) threw a live bullpen in Lakeland on Friday. It was the first time he faced hitters.
▶ First pitch: 4:05 p.m. Sunday, Sutter Health Park, Sacramento, Calif.

SCOUTING REPORT
RHP Keider Montero (7-6, 3.34), Tigers: He’s coming off a rare off performance against the Orioles (4⅓ innings, nine hits, six runs, four earned). His velocity was down just a tick but the movement on all his pitches wasn’t as sharp as it has been all season. And he’s set a high bar: Per Statcast, his pitching run value (plus-17) ranks in the top 96 percentile in baseball, his fastball (plus-10) ranks in the top 92 percentile and his off-speed pitches (plus-6) ranks in the top 93 percentile.
LHP Gage Jump (4-6, 4.00), Athletics: Ranked as the No. 3 prospect in the A’s system, the 23-year-old LSU product debuted on May 26. He’s coming off a gem against the Red Sox (six, three-hit scoreless innings). He has a six-pitch mix, led by a 96-mph four-seam fastball, slider, cutter and changeup. He will throw sweepers to lefties and mix in a sinker.
