PLYMOUTH - Sophomore Hailey Anzmann allowed one run over six innings for the St. Thomas Aquinas softball team in a Division III semifinal on Thursday, June 11 at Plymouth State University.

The one run she allowed was the only one in the game as the third-seeded Saints fell to top-seeded Gilford, 1-0.

"(Anzmann) pitched her best game of the season against a tough Gilford lineup, and the defense behind her came through with outs when we needed them most," St. Thomas head coach McKenzie McGrath said. "Unfortunately, our bats just couldn't get going, and we weren't able to find a way across the plate. It was a pitcher's duel from start to finish, and in the end, one run was the difference."

St. Thomas Aquinas, the defending Division III state champions, ends its season with a record of 15-3.

"It's tough losing a close game like that and coming up just short of reaching the championship," McGrath said. "It wasn't the way we wanted the season to end, but when I look back on this season as a whole, there's so much to be proud of and so much to celebrate.

"We're a young team, and watching the growth and development of these players over the last four months has been so rewarding and I’m so proud of this group," McGrath continued. "We'll be hungry, determined, and ready to be right back in the hunt next year."

St. Thomas managed just two hits in the game - a single by freshman Mollie Gaynor in the first inning, and a single by sophomore Mallory Enman in the third.

Gilford scored the game's only run in the fourth inning. Gilford will face No. 2 Prospect Mountain in the championship game. Prospect Mountain advanced with a 13-1 win over No. 3 White Mountains.
