Tens of thousands of runners and spectators descended on Bristol City Centre's streets for the annual Great Bristol Run.

The sold-out event kicked off at 08:30 BST with the half marathon competitors setting off before the 10K runners this year to avoid running in warmer conditions.

The new start time was part of several changes made by event organisers in response to feedback from last year's event.

Several city centre roads were closed for the race earlier and have now reopened.

Many of those who took part in the event were raising money for charity.

Anya Evans ran the 10k race for Wallace & Gromit's Grand Appeal.

She said they helped when her daughter had life-saving surgery at Bristol Children's Hospital.

"When my daughter was born, she had two heart defects and we spent two months in the hospital.

"She had surgery and it was a very difficult time for our family.

"The Grand Appeal charity made every day just a little bit less difficult."

This year's event featured a number of changes, including new start times and reversed routes.

Both the 10k and half marathon courses were flipped to run in the opposite direction to recent years to help manage the flow of runners.

This year's race also featured a separate start and finish area to create more space and additional on-course hydration.
