The Washington Capitals have both the 16th and 18th overall picks in the 2026 NHL Draft first round.

With those selections comes an intriguing possibility: They could draft both Ruck twins.

Liam and Markus Ruck just finished lighting up the Western Hockey League, and both are looking like first-round picks.

The NHL.com big board currently ranks Liam 20th in the class and Markus 23rd in the class (specifically among North American skaters). Sounds like two guys who might just be available at picks 16 and 18.

The twins just played for the Medicine Hat Tigers in the WHL, and they're awesome.

Markus went for 21 goals and 87 assists this season in his center position.

Liam had 45 goals and 59 assists while playing on the right wing.

This is kind of wild...

Markus Ruck had 87 assists this year. (Hes the playmaker, Liam is the trigger man it would appear).

Since 1990, a skater has registered 85+ assists in their draft year in the CHL only 10 times. Last one to do it was 2005... Crosby.

That's a ludicrous…

Do the Capitals necessarily need to get two forwards with those two picks? No. But if the chance is there to take these talented twins, maybe that's the way to go.

There aren't any other teams with two picks in the ballpark of where the Ruck twins seem mostly likely to come off the board. If one slid, or if a team reached early, maybe they could both end up with the same other team.

The Caps are the only club in position to really fully commit to a double Ruck pursuit. It'd certainly be fun to keep them together.
