Ruck Twins 'Couldn't Be More Excited' To Be Drafted By Penguins originally appeared on SportsNet Pittsburgh. Add SportsNet Pittsburgh as a Preferred Source by clicking here.
The Pittsburgh Penguins made the Ruck twins' dreams come true.
Pittsburgh selected Liam Ruck in the first round with the 22nd overall pick on Friday. Then, on Saturday, with the Penguins' first pick in the second round, Pittsburgh selected his twin brother, Markus, 39th overall.
The twins have played their entire hockey careers together and will get a chance to do it together professionally, which they are eager about.
“I was pretty stressed last night, so Liam told me everything's gonna be okay and work itself out,” Markus said on Saturday. “So yeah, he kept me calm, and told me it was gonna happen.
“So for it to happen, it's awesome. We knew it was gonna be very, very tough for a team to do this, and we just can't thank Pittsburgh enough. Such a historic franchise. They have Cups there, they have Crosby there, they have kind of everything. To be picked there, and together, we knew that was a pretty low chance, to be honest. So, we couldn't be more excited.”
Markus led the WHL in points last season, while Liam finished second, showing their offensive potential.
Their mom, Nina, was also thrilled her sons were drafted by the same team and they even got a phone call by Penguins captain Sidney Crosby.
“One jersey, one team. Gold is my new favorite color,” Nina said. “I know they talked to Sidney Crosby, he called them, and they were just, like, glowing. They were so excited. They couldn’t be happier.”
The Ruck twins are expected to return to the WHL next season before going to North Dakota for the 2027-28 season.
