Perhaps Jimmy Thelin's final comments about egos was a parting shot at a talented group of players whose quality has been found wanting.

It's never nice to see a manager lose their job, but making this change at the start of the January window as opposed to the end - as we have seen previously - makes sense.

Now it's over to sporting director Lutz Pfannenstiel to find a replacement. It will be interesting to see whether it's another manager brought in to meet the board's requirement to play attractive attacking football.

It's not often you see a manager comment on their sacking, but Jimmy's classy comments sum him up.

I'll always be thankful for that day in May last year. The club's first Scottish Cup success in 35 years is a memory that will live long and cements Jimmy's place in Dons history.

I wish it could have worked out, but thank you for the memories, Jimmy. You'll always have a special place in our history.
