The Minnesota Vikings leaned quite a bit on the defensive side of the ball in the 2026 NFL Draft. Their first three picks were defensive, and five of their nine total selections were on defense. This unit finished third in total defense in 2025 and is looking to replicate its success in 2026.
Did someone have a major hand in the picks made?
Jeremy Fowler of ESPN reports that the word around the league is that defensive coordinator Brian Flores may have played a major role in this year's draft.
One executive was quoted as saying, "How much influence did Brian Flores have [on the selections]? It felt like a lot. Felt like a coach-heavy draft."
While we may never truly know how much of an impact Flores had on this class, it would make sense to turn to Flores to help him get the guys he wants and stay pat. Many believed Flores would take a head coaching job this offseason, but re-signed for at least one more year.
