I love me some Tom Cruise but part of me wanted him to stay in those 90’s roles instead of being a superhero; A Few Good Men, The Firm, Jerry McGuire, Magnolia, Eyes Wide Shut. There’s always been speculation he went full superhero mode when he didn’t win an Oscar for Magnolia.
a Great actor remains great even when his industry fails to recognize his greatness. Maybe Tom just said screw them, I am just gonna do me.

If you go to the original video it has a bit more detail. Just so people don't think Cruise didn't care about safety? That wasn't the case. He actually worked with the studios and government to ensure they could go back to work and do it safe. For example, they arranged the orchestra members to get individual mics, record their parts and combine them in post production.
So, he was scheming for sure but not at the expense of people. He also made sure the crew was getting paid during the down time. Pretty damn epic move on his part. LOL.
