I think he will do well, maybe more - I expect sacks and now coverage.

He’s a joker on this team.

Even coming back from injury, we do not know at what level he is returning to.

Reports says that he made a leap coming into last season and coaches were convinced he was entering a 10+ sack season. Is he back to that? Was it all camp hype?

Would be awesome if he returns to that level, but time will tell.

Happy that Monti got insurance in depth. Sweat will handle one side (55-65%). Zaven on 1st and 2nd with browning on 3rd on the other. That is solid. Whatever BJ, XT and Burch brings will be an added bonus.

I had such high hopes for him but he’s a JAG until proven otherwise. #TheBestAbilityIsAvailability
same. I defended him pretty strongly the past couple seasons mostly because we drafted him so young he still has time to develop.
But if that kid gets another season ending injury Mike needs to go clean out the locker himself and have the box waiting for beej when he shows up.
it will suck, because in true cardinal fashion he will sign with the niners and go on to average 14 sacks a season for the next 10 years. But how many millions are you gonna pay a guy to never step on the field?
eat the loss, clear the distraction...make it over.

He had a very good first year. It is just getting extremely crowded. Everyone is in crazy competition on DL, DE and LBs.

If there is an injury risk, they will probably just continue to be safe with him.

Still has good upside, he was a 3rd rounder for a reason.

Ahh. He showed promise by having 4-6 starting level games mid rookie season.

He was a 2nd rounder.

I do agree with the upside. The small sample size show potential of being a solid starter.

The 4 sacks he had was what encouraged me. He was on a similar path as dante stills, which may be the odd man out in the DT rotation despite having 10 sacks in 2 seasons.

From what we have seen, I highly doubt that. He has shown more and has two years left on a very cheap contract.

Unless something happens I expect Monti to cut his losses with Nicols

I’m glad we put ourselves in a position where we are not reliant on him. Bummer that he is still not ready yet despite not playing a single snap last season. He’s got an uphill battle to remain on this team after this year and he isn’t off to a great start. Hard to imagine that after a year off he’s going to jump right back into the thick of things and be a “10 sack guy”. Odds are higher of him being a bust

All depends on his recovery. I think he showed promise of becoming the “other” Edge as in the solid 6-10 sack starter opposite a premier pass rusher. And showed enough not to be a complete bust.

But now the question is if he can do it at a consistent level and if he can stay injury-free.

I wonder where ESPN is getting this from.

You understand you’re saying a second round pick looked almost as good as a rookie as a sixth round pick.

Stills had 8 sacks in two seasons.

I’d love for you to produce one report that substantiates this, especially the coaches putting a statistical benchmark out there.

Beej was injured two weeks into training camp last year.

I didn’t expect him to be ready in June.

With an ACL recovery I don’t expect he’ll be back to full strength until next season. Come camp it will be one year, right?

They will not put pressure on him until mid season this year.
