A rundown of Jalen Duren’s contract situation: The 22-year-old center will become a restricted free agent this summer, after he and the Pistons failed to agree to an extension on his rookie contract before the Oct. 20 deadline. Assuming the Pistons extend his qualifying offer – a formality for a team intending to re-sign its own player – they will either be able to sign him to a multi-year deal or match any outside offers for Duren. The Pistons currently can offer him a maximum of up to five years and roughly $239 million. That represents a starting salary of around $41.4 million, or 25% of next year’s salary cap, with 8% annual raises. An outside team would be limited to offering a maximum four-year contract with 5% annual raises, which would clock in at about $177.4 million with the same starting salary.
