GAME OF THE DAY

After giving up an early four-run lead to North Kingstown, the Quakers rebounded nicely with the bats. Abby DeWolf’s bases-clearing double flipped the scoreboard for good in the fifth and MB added insurance that wasn’t necessary as Celia Bodurtha shut down the Skippers the rest of the way to pull out the 11-7 win.

Moses Brown was aggressive at the plate from the start and built a 4-0 lead after the top of the second. North Kingstown then went on the attack, getting three runs in the bottom of the inning and four in the bottom of the fourth — two coming on a two-run single by Cassidy Dowd — to take a 7-4 lead after three innings.

The Quakers added a run in the top of the fourth before exploding in the fifth inning. A walk, an error and a hit batsmen loaded the bases for DeWolf, who took advantage of the situation and roped a shot to left field to put her team back on top, 8-7.

Two batters later, Bodurtha hit a double that plated DeWolf with Coco Medeiros scoring on an error on the play for a 10-7 lead.

It was more than enough for Bodurtha, who came on in relief in the third inning. She got dinged in that inning but was a different pitcher in the final four innings. Bodurtha retired 12 of the final 14 Skippers she faced to seal up the victory.

Medeiros had a big day at the plate for Moses Brown, going 4-for-5 with three RBI and two runs. DeWolf finished 3-for-5 with three RBI and two runs and Elodie Cannon was 2-for-3 with three runs and one RBI. Abby Sepe scored twice in the win.

Dowd led North Kingstown on offense, going 2-for-4 with three RBI and two runs scored. Ella Mezzanotte had two hits and one RBI and Gianna Amedeo and Hannah Place scored two runs apiece.

La Salle 14, Cranston East 2

The Rams scored 13 runs in the third inning to virtually seal the victory. La Salle’s Thomas Malloy had three hits — two doubles and a single — in three at-bats. Cam Caprio earned the win for the Rams. He allowed five hits and two runs (one earned), struck out three and walked one over four innings. Antonio Defusco took the loss for Cranston East. He was 2-for-2 at the plate, however, to lead the Thunderbolts in hits. Cameran Boulanger and Smerlyn Lopez each drove in a run for Cranston East. The Rams amassed 11 hits in the game.

East Providence 4, Cranston West 2

Lead-off batter Aidan Martins smacked 3 hits in 4-at bats and drove in the go-ahead run, as the Townies defeated the Falcons. East Providence got on the board in the bottom of the second inning when Kyle Desrosiers singled down the left-field line to drive in 1 run, and Gavin Palombo doubled to center field to drive in another. Elan Santana hit a solo home run to left field in the top of the third for Cranston West, cutting its deficit in half. Ethan Madden singled in the fourth to tie it for Cranston West. In the bottom of the fourth, East Providence went back into the lead when Martins singled to left field for an RBI, and Palombo grounded into a fielder's choice to score another. Cranston West piled up 10 hits in the game. Chris Barboza, Logan Taylor, and Santana each had 2 hits.

Lincoln 5, Coventry 2

The Lions broke out for 4 runs in the first inning, and that was enough for Lincoln to hold on for the Division I victory over the Oakers. Lincoln's Mike Parisi — 2-for-4 with a run scored and an RBI — started with a single. Two batters later, Brennan Robert walked and Connor Smith was struck by a pitch, each scoring one run. The Lions tallied nine hits in the game, with Isaac Cabral, Parisi, Caden Oldham and Lucas Marshall each collecting two hits in the win.

Cabral earned the win, scattering 4 hits and two runs (zero earned) over 7 innings with 7 strikeouts and one walk.

Caeden Joyce and Gabriel Lopez each drove in one run for Coventry, and Griffin Frenze went 2-for-3 at the plate.

Smithfield 10, Portsmouth 4

Shaun Dwyer had 3 hits and drove in 3 runs, Luke Dwyer also had 3 hits, and Chase Prata also knocked in 3 runs as the Sentinels out-hit the Patriots, 14-11, and dominated. Smithfield took the lead in the first inning when Prata drove in a run with a single. Shaun Dwyer's single in the second made it a 3-0 game and the Sentinels were off and running. Casey Cord, Emmett Greenwood, Charlie Cord and Damon Owen each finished with two hits for Portsmouth.

South Kingstown 6, Pilgrim 1

Rebels starter Quinn Matos tossed a complete-game 3-hitter for the win over the Patriots. He struck out 4, walked one and allowed 1 unearned run over 7 innings.

The South Kingstown offense was keyed by Nick Vellone, who was 2-for-3 with an RBI and run scored, with Jonah Monnes, Brayden Rosen, Sam McLeod and Mike DiGioia each collecting a hit and an RBI.

Donovan Vermette led the Patriots with 3 hits in the loss.

Westerly 7, North Kingstown 6

The game ended in a literal walk-off as the Bulldogs’ Michael Poole drew a base-on-balls in the bottom of the seventh inning. Westerly had made a comeback after falling behind, 5-0, in the third inning. Reliever Zach Miner got the win in relief, surrendering just two hits and no runs over two innings, striking out two and walking none. Chase Collins had started the game on the mound for Westerly. The right-hander gave up eight hits and six runs (three earned) over five innings. He struck out five and walked four. Jack Parker led the Bulldogs with two runs batted in. Jack Zerbarini had three hits in five at-bats. North Kingstown amassed 10 hits in the game, with Tucker Lamond and Bodie Forsell getting two apiece.

⚾BASEBALL - Division III

Scituate 21, Times2 1

Travis Howman and Tyler North each collected three hits as the Spartans rolled to an easy victory. Scituate scored 8 runs in the first inning, then six in the second to put the game away early. Scituate finished with 17 hits in the game that was called after 5 innings due to the mercy rule.

PCD 5, Tiverton 3

Maddux Fredericks struck out 5 over 6 innings and scattered 7 hits as PCD outlasted the Tigers in this Division III matchup. Tyler Stanzione scored twice and drove in another, Ryan Boline and Ryan Duclos each had an RBI and scored a run in the win. Nate Tavares led Tiverton, going 1-for-3 with 2 RBI in the loss.

North Smithfield 9, Davies 1

Tyler Albino struck out 13 batters, allowed just one run and 3 hits as the Northmen cruised past the Patriots. North Smithfield scored early and often, taking a 6-0 lead after 3 innings and tallying 3 more later in the game. Nick Tremblay went 2-for-4 with a run scored, and Nate Dec and RJ Reall each had an RBI in the win. Nate Wiggins led Davies with one RBI in the loss.

Exeter-West Greenwich 9, Hope 4

Dylan Main got things rolling for the Scarlet Knights in the bottom of the first inning with a three-run homer to left field that gave Exeter-West Greenwich a 3-1 lead. Kole Kilduff earned the victory. The right-hander gave up two hits and one run (none earned), struck out two and walked one over four innings. Ethan Koczwanski pitched 2⅔ innings of scoreless ball in relief of Kilduff. Main led his team with the three runs batted in and had two hits in his four at-bats. Kilduff stole three bases. Samir Ferreras, Ariel Medrano and Dariel Genao-Encarnacion had a hit each for the Blue Wave.

Classical 13, Mount Pleasant 12

Silas McKay had 3 hits and drove in 4 runs to lead the Purple to victory in an intracity slugfest over the Kilties. Mount Pleasant got on the scoreboard first, scoring single runs in the first and second innings. The Kilties added 5 runs to their lead in the third inning, but Classical responded by scoring 10 runs on 5 hits to go ahead, 13-9, in the bottom of the sixth. Josiah Nyahkoon had 2 hits and McKay stole 4 bases. Yadhiel Moya drove in 3 runs for Mount Pleasant.

Chariho 9, Smithfield 0

Adriana Jeannenot used all her pitches and the three runs the Chargers scored in the first inning were more than enough for the win over the Sentinels.

The All-Stater had it all working in the circle. Jeannenot opened the game by striking out the first three batters she faced, setting a tone for the afternoon. When it was done, the Chariho sophomore threw a complete-game three-hitter and finished with 13 strikeouts.

Madeline Dorgan got the offense going with a one-out triple in the first, later scoring on a wild pitch. Jeannenot scored the second run on a successful double steal and Kesten Hanks made it 3-0 with an RBI single.

Kaelyn Comerford added to the lead in the fourth with a three-run home run and finished the game with three runs. Dorgan went 2-for-3 with three runs scored and Anna Tretton was 2-for-3 with one RBI. Jeannenot scored a pair in the win.

Crystal Cacador broke up Jeannenot’s no-hit bid with a single in the fourth inning.

Pilgrim 14, Cumberland 2

Marin Prest hit two inside-the-park home runs in the first two innings as the Patriots scored nine runs and put things away early in a win over the Clippers.

Prest brought in the first runs of the game for Pilgrim with a bomb to center field that allowed her to circle the bases behind teammates Genna D’Amato and Skyler Hawes. After a Hawes’ sac fly in the second, Prest repeated the feat to put the Patriots up 7-0.

It was more than enough for Gretchen Dombeck, who threw all five innings and gave up one earned run on three hits while striking out four.

Prest finished the game 3-for-3 with seven RBI and three runs. Carli Harker went 3-for-4 and scored three runs. D’Amato and Hawes both scored twice and Adrianna Pettinato and Natalie Fratus both finished with two RBI.

Cadence Hebert had an RBI triple and scored a run in the loss for Cumberland and Abigail O’Connor scored the other run.

Prout 4, Coventry 2

The Crusaders got veteran plays from their young lineup and sophomore Lily Sheehan pitched a gem in a win over the Oakers.

Down 2-1 after Coventry’s Leah Lapham hit a two-run triple in the third, Prout took advantage of an Oaker error to tie the score at two. Freshman Megan Gardiner came up with a runner on third base and executed a perfect squeeze bunt to put the Crusaders ahead, 3-2.

Prout added another run in the fifth inning on a single by sophomore Emma Sechio, but Sheehan didn’t need the insurance. The sophomore befuddled Coventry’s lineup and gave up two hits and two unearned runs while striking out six to pick up the win.

Sechio went 2-for-2 with one run for Prout and Rachel Dias and Kelsea Flaherty each had two hits and scored one run in the win.

SOFTBALL – Division II

St. Raphael 3, Ponaganset 2

The Saints capitalized on Chieftains’ miscues and Izzy Sousa stopped a rally in its tracks before taking over the game the rest of the way in the win.

St. Raphael scored a run in the first inning off a Ponaganset error and, in the third, Sousa’s single to left field turned into a Little League home run, putting the Saints up 3-0.

The Chieftains battled back in the top of the fourth, getting a one-out RBI double from Mia Duncan followed by an RBI single from Cora Miller.

Sousa didn’t give the Chieftains a chance the rest of the way. After Miller’s single, Sousa got the final two outs to end the threat, then finished the game getting nine of the next 10 Ponaganset hitters out. Sousa spread out eight hits over her seven innings of work and struck out 10 batters.

Jaliyah De Los Santos had two hits and scored two runs in the win. Sophie Roman also had two hits.

Jillian Baris went 3-for-4 for the Chieftains, Maia Salvo went 2-for-3 with one RBI and Duncan scored once and drove in a run. Freshman Mattea Mello gave up four hits in six innings with no earned runs, striking out eight.

Barrington 12, Westerly 8

Rachel Ciummo got the Eagles flying in the right direction and the offense built a big enough lead to withstand a power surge from Addison Poole to take down the Bulldogs.

Leading 2-0 in the first inning after a two-run single by Maya Etheridge, Ciummo stepped up and doubled the lead with a titanic shot to center field. Barrington added three more runs before the inning was over to lead 7-0.

Poole helped Westerly get back in the game, following an Ella Keegan RBI single with one of her own. Alison Maranda’s two-run double capped the five-run inning and in the fourth, the Bulldogs made it a one-run game when Poole went yard.

Barrington added a run in the fifth inning and took advantage of Westerly miscues to the tune of four runs to make it 12-6. Poole tried to start a late rally with a no-out, two-run homer in the seventh, but the Eagles got through the rest of the inning unscathed.

Etheridge finished the day with two hits and three RBI for Barrington and Ciummo had the homer, two RBI and scored twice. Ace McCoy and Alyssa Conaty both finished the game 2-for-4 with two runs. Cora Floriani also had two hits and scored one run while Dahlia Weller scored a pair of runs.

Poole, a freshman, had a huge game for Westerly, going 4-for-4 with four RBI and three runs. Keegan went 2-for-4 with one RBI and one run and Ava D’Ortona went 2-for-3 with one run.

Rogers 17, Central Falls 2

RBI triples by Lila Leys and Tess Margolis’ highlighted an 11-run first inning that propelled the Vikings past the Warriors, 17-2.

Rogers showed patience at the plate, working walks and taking bases on wild pitches and passed balls. Leys brought the first two runs of the game home on a two-run triple, later scoring on a passed ball. The Vikings led, 5-0, when Margolis hit an RBI triple and scored on a passed ball.

Central Falls scored twice in the top of the second, but Rogers came back with five runs and walked off with the win on a Warriors’ error that brought home Maeve Higgins.

Margolis finished her day 3-for-3 with two triples, two RBI and two runs. Leys went 1-for-2 with three RBI and three runs. Margaret Phelps and Higgins scored three times each in the win and Talia Cicilline scored twice. Charlotte Plowden drove in a pair for Rogers.

Mabel Guzman had an RBI triple that brought home Chaelys Brito Acevedo in the second inning.

Davies 13, Middletown 1

Madison Blanchette got the Patriots’ offense going in the first inning and they didn’t stop hitting the rest of the game in a win over the Islanders.

Davies had two on with one out in the first inning when Blanchette stepped up and ripped a single to left field that scored Jaslene Rodriguez and Ayla Burlingham. Two Middletown errors had the Patriots up 5-0 and the offense continued to pile on runs, scoring four in the second, three in the third and one in the fourth to bring the mercy-rule into play.

Blanchette had a great day, going 2-for-3 with four RBI. Rodriguez had herself a game as well, going 2-for-4 with three runs scored and two RBI. Kylie Robert scored twice and Darelyn Maldonado scored one run and drove in another.

Middletown freshman Juliana Brett had one hit and one RBI in the loss.

Tiverton 17, Times2 0

Freshman Lilana Luis had a day to remember, mashing at the plate and throwing three no-hit innings in the Tigers’ mercy-rule shortened win over the Eagles.

Tiverton led 4-0 in the first inning when Luis stepped up and crushed a bases-loaded triple that helped build an 8-0 lead after one. In the second, she hit an RBI single that started a five-run inning.

Luis also threw three perfect innings for Tiverton, striking out five.

Brooke Sowa helped the offense out, going 2-for-4 with three RBI and one run. Sadie Pickering finished with three RBI and Rylee Bordner drove in a pair. Caroline Durost scored two in the win.

Exeter-West Greenwich 26, Juanita Sanchez 11

Madison Sherman hit two home runs and Ashley Lussier was an RBI machine as the Scarlet Knights outslugged the Cavaliers.

EWG led, 3-0, in the first when Sherman hit a grand slam, helping build an 8-0 lead when the inning ended.

Juanita Sanchez didn’t let the inning get it down. The Cavaliers scored three in the bottom half of the first, then the bats really came alive in the second. Walks helped Juanita Sanchez tie the game and Keasia Mulbah was hit by a pitch to give the team a 9-8 lead. EWG tied the game in the top of the third, but Jazline Castillo’s RBI single had the Cavaliers out in front 10-9.

Sherman changed the scoreboard for good in the top of the fourth, hitting a three-run home run for a 12-10 lead. Lussier had an RBI later in the inning and scored on a wild pitch. Up 15-10, EWG went off for 11 runs in the top of the fifth to bring the mercy rule into play.

Sherman had a career game, going 3-for-4 with eight RBI and four runs. Lussier was 1-for-4 and had five RBI and four runs. Alayna Chipman was 2-for-3 with five runs and two RBI and Ellise Fuller finished 2-for-5 with two runs and on RBI. Casey Boudreau and Jenna Travers both scored three runs in the win.
