In one of the interminable bash Graves threads, the Pats were being touted as formidable draftors and everybody just went along with it.

I had my doubts but let it go because what I had observed was that the Pats worked the free agent market better than most and that contradicted my bias of not liking building a team through free agency. Why make myself look silly unnecessarily?

I decided to look at it anyway. Here is their draft history. Some very good picks. Some bad ones. And a whole bunch of mediocrity. Just like everybody else.

You judge. Here is the link:

I think they are pretty successful, especially on their top 2 picks. Even moreso when you consider they are usually drafting at the bottom of the round. It's too early to judge 2007 but 2006 yielded Maroney. Chad Jackson has had issues.2005, Mankins,all-pro, Hobbs and Kaczur are both starters. 2004,Wilfork and Watson would start on about any team. Marquise Hill may have been a player. 2003 may have been their best draft. It gave them Ty Warren,Eugene Wilson,Asante Samulel,Dan Koppen and Tully Banta-Cain.

The Patriots seems to have a lot of 5th and 6th round picks compared to other teams.

INteresting Tid Bit. Over the last 5 years the Patriots have cut or released more of their draft picks, Percentage wise, then any other team. They dont keep many of their draft picks. But they have the most draftee's still in the league after 5 years be it with them or other teams.

Just shows how loaded they are and that they draft well.
