Mike LaFleur said Josh Sweat would be practicing “if he could” but that he has to ramp up since this is his second day back with the team. Not injury related, just a matter of building up.

Asked whether Brissett would be practicing if he could, LaFleur declined to answer.

A total projection, but I think it's tough for players to see this as a fresh start when Monti and Rallis are still here.

Updates from #AZCardinals HC Mike LaFleur as mandatory minicamp wages on:

- Feels like minicamp is just an extension of OTAs. Nothing drastically different

- “good to see both of those guys.” on Jacoby Brissett and Josh Sweat. Confirmed Brissett was in meetings with the team. “We’ll reevaluate them” when asked if both would eventually practice

- Believes Paris Johnson Jr. has shown growth even since LaFleur met him.

- Believes “the sky is the limit” for Trey McBride and described him as very process-driven.

- “we’re a mature team” when asked what’s pleased or surprised him about things so far.

- “I’ll keep that between us. If he could, he would right now…” said it’s not injury related on Josh Sweat. Cited he hasn’t practiced and he wasn’t going to throw him into the fire.

- Really appreciated growth in QB room so far. Said most growth from Carson Beck has been in the form of asking mature questions.

- Andrew Billings and Roy Lopez have had a really good ten days according to LaFleur.

- Hasn’t felt MHJ’s frustration from last season when talking to him. Says players have to restart foundation. “With the way he approaches it, you’d never know” if he was frustrated.

- Rookie class “they’re not there yet” in terms of grasping playbook, which is fine. Says main focus is not repeating mistakes. Believes a rookie will be ready when they’re ready but also needs urgency “because this league doesn’t wait”

- Depth on running back room: Says it’s a good thing to have. Says they’re not gonna take the hot hand out but called it a net positive

Trey McBride on having Jacoby Brissett back in the building today: "I feel like guys are excited that he was here. Guys want him to be here. Obviously, would love to have him in the building, but he's working through some things on his own. So we totally understand that. But you could just tell the presence that he brought today being in the building was awesome."

Cardinals coach Mike LaFleur said if Josh Sweat, who also attended minicam but did not participate, could practice, he would but added him not being on the field today didn't have anything to do with injuries.

LaFleur also said there isn't a "situation" with Sweat.

"The situation is, again, he hasn't practiced," LaFleur said. "I'm not going to put a guy out on the field that hasn't been out there to prep. That's what Phase One and Phase Two are for, to get guys ready for Phase Three. Josh has always done this. Josh has always had his own program and he's not the first guy on any team I've been a part of that's been a part of that. In San Francisco, L.A., we've always had guys that were kind of like that and that's OK. The one thing that you know about Josh is when he's not in this building, he's working and I think that shows when he gets out there on the field."

LaFleur said Sweat is in a "good spot" and "looks really good." The two had a "good conversation" and LaFleur added he's not worried about Sweat "at all."

This makes no sense. Has Josh been working out on his own or not? Would eight days of work really make a difference here?

Is the message you don’t get to do mandatory work if you don’t participate in voluntary work?

Might make a difference on day 1. Would be a concern if was the same on day 5.

Lot of people very excited about the idea of both a five-win season and a bottom four offense and defense.

I’ll never get it. Will watching 17 weeks of awful football really be worth it to feel good for 10 seconds?

Many people here failing the Marshmallow Problem.
I kinda feel like maybe this post got the marshmallow problem backwards. Those stumping for 17 weeks of awful football to get a better draft pick are playing the long game rather than immediate gratification. That’s winning the marshmallow problem.

No. They want to cut Brissett. Then they don’t have the consistent reminder of the incompetence of this organization (just the low-level background noise).

You can be fun and bad. It’s what the Saints were last season. Arguably that’s what the 2023 Cardinals were. There’s very little path to that with a QB battery of Minshew and Beck. Even if those guys turn out to be better options, at least you find out on the field.

And I’m pretty sure you’re the one who has the marshmallow problem wrong, even in your conception. If you wait five minutes, you do get two marshmallows at the end.

You’re cheering for 18 weeks of the most hopeless football imaginable and could end up with Marvin Harrison Jr.

I feel like this franchise has failed at this approach for most of it's existence.

When I was drafted into the Army, most friends offered me this advice. "Don't volunteer for anything".
So true! My busload of basic training guys arrived 3 days before the cycle started. Once they got us processed, they left us in an air conditioned auditorium watching sports and movies. Someone came in and asked who had a driver's license. I wisely kept my hand down. They pointed to a bunch of idiots with their hand up and sent them into the hot and humid day to mow the lawn--for 3 days.

Never volunteer!
