Derek Anderson is visiting as well. This is shaping up to be one of the Cardinals more active and best FA periods in a few years (if the get Foote and Porter).

Interesting free agency notes from Sando's blog today.

More then half of the NFL have yet to sign a single UFA.

Mare Ware is the youngest free agent on the market at 27 years old. Most of the free agents left on the market or over the age of 30.

Yesterday was weird. Not a single word about the Derek Anderson visit. Just one picture of him and Lott talking on the main web site. But no stories about how the visit went from Urban, Somers, or Sando. That just seems odd to me.

Cardinals talking contract with Whitehurst's agent

Arizona Cardinals update:

The Cardinals and Seahawks are both discussing contract parameters this weekend with Chargers quarterback Charlie Whitehurst, a restricted free agent.

The Chargers gave Whitehurst an original round tender, meaning they would receive a third-round pick in return should they not choose to match a team's offer for Whitehurst, drafted out of Clemson in 2006.

The Seahawks don't have a third-round pick, so they would have to trade for Whitehurst. The Cardinals have two third-round picks and apparently are willing to part with one of them for Whitehurst.

Both teams are searching for a backup quarterback. The Seahawks want to groom a replacement for Matt Hasselbeck, while the Cardinals are looking for someone to compete with Matt Leinart.

Whitehurst, 27, has not thrown a pass in four regular seasons in the NFL and is playing behind Philip Rivers and Billy Volek.

I don't even want Whitehurst, but it still bothers me the Seahawks are talking to him. I totally feel like a high school girl who totally shuts down a guy and then gets jealous when he talks to my friends.

Urban update 3-22-10

One spot the Cards will keep considering outside in free agency is kicker. Jay Feely is still in play — he finished up his visit Monday

Safety Matt Ware, despite earlier reports elsewhere in the NFLverse, has not yet re-signed

I heard back from Graves, who said the Cards will continue to consider free agents. But if the Cards sign players from elsewhere, they would “likely be to replace some of our own UFAs that we do not have agreements with.” That’s the category Feely would fall under, and would come into play, it would seem, if guys like Robinson, Morey, Ware, linebacker Monty Beisel, quarterback Brian St. Pierre or fullback Dan Kreider don’t return.

Seahawks are likely to land Morey. Which would be a good thing for us if he makes it on their 53 man roster, for the full season that is.

2011 comp pick status -

Qualifying free agent lost - Karlos Dansby, Sean Morey

Qualifying free agents gained - Rex Hadnot, Paris Lenon

That is 2 in and 2 out meaning possibility of a 7th rounder at best, and with the Dansby contract its pretty much a lock.
