Georgia Bulldogs quarterback Stetson Bennett (13) breaks away for a long touchdown run during the second half of a NCAA college football game between Auburn and Georgia in Athens, Ga., on Saturday, Sept. 8, 2022. Georgia won 42-10. News Joshua L Jones
As a reminder, the stated official policy of this site is that Auburn University is a thoroughly ridiculous institution in all ways and across all criteria. Rest assured that will never change, and if you see anything in these digital pages to the contrary it means your author La, every last one of us, has been kidnapped and are trying to signal that we are not okay.
Stetson Bennett, in contrast, has cultivated a gift for making others look ridiculous, both by land and by air.
Combine those two opposing forces and you wind up with this.
Stet the Jet was at his most turbo-boosted when the eventual national champions took on the Plainsmen in 2022. The Bulldog offense kept the ball on the ground when they met up with the 3-2 Tigers, and the game was still fairly competitive at the half, with a pair of Daijun Edwards touchdowns staking the Red and Black to a 14-0 lead. The score was still only 21-3 at the end of three quarters, until Bennett found an acre or so of green grass in front of him and took advantage, rocketing into the endzone for a 64 yard touchdown.
The run was the longest of Bennett’s Bulldog career, and it blew the game open. Georgia would eventually win 42-10, extending Auburn’s losing streak against the University of Georgia both on the football field and in the game of life. Until later…
