If there were any ill affects from back-to-back losses against state title contenders this week, the Cranston West softball team certainly didn’t show them on Friday
Up against Chariho — another team in the state championship mix — the Falcons continued to play good softball and got the result they were looking for. Mia Crudale pitched herself out of trouble and Emma Regine’s second-inning home run was all the offense Cranston West needed in a 3-0 win over the Chargers.
It was a tough week for the Falcons, who lost to Coventry on Monday and La Salle on Wednesday. Chariho was hardly the opponent you’d want to play when trying to end a two-game slide.
Crudale made sure to right the ship. The senior had control issues — walking six batters — but her spin and movement kept the Chargers off-balance all game. Crudale surrendered only three hits in her seven innings of work.
Cranston West didn’t light up the scoreboard like it did in Wednesday’s loss to La Salle, but it did enough. Regine hit a one-out home run in the second inning for a 1-0 lead, which proved to be more than enough for Crudale, who dropped a sac bunt in the third inning that scored Mia Santomassimo for a 2-0 lead. Mia Baffoni made things a little more comfortable heading to the seventh with an RBI double that scored Caroline Nelson.
Chariho got a great effort in the circle from freshman Gabriella Ricci and sophomore Adriana Jeannenot. Ricci threw the first two innings with the homer to Regine the only blemish before Jeannenot stepped in, throwing four innings of relief and giving up one earned run.
Cranston West is now 4-2 in Division I and plays again on Saturday night when it hosts Cumberland at the Brayton Avenue Softball Complex. Chariho drops to 4-3 and will be back in action on Tuesday when it travels to play Prout.
The Bulldogs broke open a one-run game by scoring five runs on five hits in the top of the seventh inning and held on to post the victory. Jayden Parker singled in one run during the rally, another scored on an error, Zack Miner singled in another, and Tom Fiore doubledin two. Miner allowed one hit and no runs over three innings of relief, striking out three and walking none. Miner went 3-for-3 at the plate and led the team with three runs batted in. Lucas Marshall led the Lions with three RBI, Joseph Lezon had three hits and Caden Oldham collected two hits for Lincoln.
Starter Liam Monahan pitched a no-hitter for 5⅓ innings, and finished with a 2-hitter, as he led the Clippers to the victory. Offensively, Josh Lyon provided all the runs Monahan would need with a 3-run triple in the second inning. Aidan Ray added a 2-run homer. The no-hit bid was ended with one out in the sixth on a single by Riley Wheeler. Aiden Riley had the other hit for Coventry.
Matthew Chofay led the Crusaders with three hits, including a solo inside-the-park home run in the fourth inning, to give Prout an early lead. Prout had 10 hits in the game, with Kaden Osenkowski and Cam Randall each collecting multiple hits. Starter Drew Nowell struck out 8 over 4 innings for Prout. Toll Gate's Jack Colvin struck out 10 batters, and Oliver Chavez led the Titans, going 2-for-3 with an RBI. Connor Salzillo also had two hits for Toll Gate.

Pawtucket broke out the hitting sticks as it banged out 11 hits in the game with Jaiden Mills and Jeremy Torres leading the way. Mills had three hits and drove in three and Torres had two hits and also plated three runs. For Rogers, Darren Carter had two hits and Cole Milburn had one hit and drove in two in the loss.

Barbara Rainey and Mia Ruggieri each hit a pair of home runs as the Patriots offense dominated in a 20-3 win over the Broncos.
Trailing 2-0 after the top half of the first, Ruggieri got the lead back with a three-run homer. Portsmouth added to the lead thanks to a BNS error and an RBI single by Kylie Boeh.
Rainey added to the lead with an RBI single in the bottom of the second. It sparked a rally that saw Tatum Brennan and Boeh both drive in runs with hits before Rainey hit a two-run homer to put the Patriots ahead, 15-2.
Ruggieri stepped up next and hit her second homer of the day. Comfortably ahead going into the bottom of the third, Boeh led off the bottom half with a dinger and Rainey ended the game with a three-run shot.
Rainey finished the game 4-for-4 with 6 RBI and 4 runs scored. Ruggieri went 2-for-3 with four RBI and three runs scored and Boeh was 3-for-3 with four RBI and two runs. Lillyan Morgado scored three runs and Brennan and Kaylyn Aubuchon scored two runs apiece.
Olivia Audette had the lone BNS hit and scored one run. Grace Trowbridge had the team’s only RBI.
After seeing a seven-run lead shrink to two, the Islanders' bats responded with a furious charge in the fourth inning to gain the needed separation to put the Cavaliers away, 14-5.
Middletown scored seven runs in the first three innings and was cruising to a win until Juanita Sanchez put together a rally in the fourth. The Cavaliers did a little bit of everything to reach base and got a big two-run double by Jhislean Soriano and an RBI single by Veasna Yean to cut the deficit to 7-5.
The Islanders wasted little time in growing the lead. Charlotte Miller hit an RBI triple, Delaney King ripped a two-run double and Riley Sexton hit a two-run double as well before stealing home to make it 13-5 at the end of the fourth.
It was more than enough support for Sexton, who settled in after the tough fourth to shut the Cavaliers down. She finished the game with 11 strikeouts and earned the win. Sexton had a big offensive day, going 2-for-4 with three RBI. Miller, Leilah Pettit, Bailey Silvia, Jessica Laramie, Lorelei Elshant and Finley Berard scored two runs apiece in the win.
Keasia Mulbah had two hits for Juanita Sanchez, which had five players — including Mulbah — score runs. Soriano had the two RBI and Yean and Jezaidy Cortes also drove in runs.
The Warriors shortened their afternoon thanks to a big third inning in their big win over the Navigators. Central Falls put six on the board in the second to build a comfortable 6-1 lead, but exploded for 13 runs in the third inning. The Warriors showed patience at the plate and worked walks, took advantage of Cuffee errors and got a three-run double from Chaelys Brito-Acevedo in the inning.
Acevedo-Brito was the star of the offense, going 1-for-3 with three RBI and two run scored. Mabel Guzman, Jemayah Mendes and Elva Moreira scored three runs apiece in the win and LC Collins had two runs scored and one RBI.
