A Giannis Antetokounmpo trade may not be as imminent as we originally thought.

With the NBA Draft approaching next week, the rumor mill on an Antetokounmpo deal began heating up as reports suggested the Milwaukee Bucks star could be moved before the draft. Boston and Miami were the most mentioned landing spots.

However, one insider just threw cold water on that thought, saying the Bucks aren't operating on a deadline.

"From what I’m hearing, this can drag on into free agency. This can drag on into July. So, the Bucks are not operating as if that is the deadline," Chris Haynes said on Deals and Dunks.

Chris Haynes on Giannis:

“From what I’m hearing this could drag on into free agency. This could drag on until July…. Boston seems a little bit from what I’m hearing and gauging, Boston doesn’t seem a promising destination…. I do still believe he will be moved this offseason… pic.twitter.com/8HXIJisTGw

To further cool anticipation of a deal, Haynes added that not a single team has actually made momentum in a potential trade with the Bucks. That includes Boston, which he said has made no indication of being set on making a deal.

"Boston doesn’t seem as promising a destination as we thought," Haynes said. "I think there's interest, but there is not a clear sign as of right now that is their No. 1 objective... I still do ultimately believe he will be moved this offseason, but I’m not as certain as I was before that it would be done before the draft."

In other words, we may be back at square one. Which makes you wonder, if no one blows the Bucks away with an offer, will they actually go into another season with Antetokounmpo still on the roster?

As the WNBA continues to grow, the league just announced it'll be expanding to 50 games beginning with the 2027 season.

It'll mark a six-game increase over the 44-game schedules of this season and last, and the latest in a string of expansions from the 34-game schedules before COVID.

The longer schedule will come the same year the WNBA introduces its 16th franchise, in Cleveland, with teams in Detroit and Philadelphia also set to join the league by 2030.

With so much chatter around how long the NBA season is, it'll be interesting to see where the W settles as a sweet spot to maximize revenue and fan engagement while still prioritizing player health. Especially considering its season begins almost immediately after the college draft, leaving rookies little time to prepare.
