Residents Against Cardinals Demands (http://www.racd.org/home.asp?pageval=events)

Tuesday, May 13th - McDuffy's a rousing success!

A special thank you to all who came out and participated! We're excited to report that turnout for our meeting was excellent with every table taken! It was a strong group who contributed through their presence and voice.

Thank you to McDuffy's for hosting us! We also want to thank the media present including Fox 10 News, Fox Sports Net, and KTAR. They were gracious and asked appropriate and intelligent questions. Fox Sports Net telecast segments of the meeting, with comments by Brant Roberts (approved by attendees to be Chairman of Residents Against Cardinals Demands), during the Arizona Sports Report which started at 9:30 and replayed at 10:00. KTAR and Fox 10 News also took interviews before the meeting and intend to carry the message as well. We are grateful for their presence and look forward to continuing our relationship with the many media outlets who have been so gracious to us.

Important topics discussed at the meeting were the purpose and mission of Residents Against Cardinals' Demands, a recap of current and planned media activities, the organization of a steering committee (members are Brant Roberts, Bruce Ward, John Caldwell, Darren Roman, Hod Rabino, and Jon Marion w/ TerryLee Terrell offering her support in an assistive role to the committee), the creation of a donation fund at Bank of America, announcement of Awareness Day scheduled for this Friday (5/13), and recommendations for future events. Also discussed in length was information regarding the current dispute between the Cardinals and ASU.

The open forum was the highlight of the meeting as intelligent and useful dialogue was presented. Thank you for taking the initiative to express yourself and have your voice heard! Continue to do so both wthin RACD as well as by calling the radio stations and writing letters!

The powerpoint presentation used for the meeting can be viewed by clicking here. Additionally, DevilsDigest has written an excellent article on the event. Again thank you for all of your support!

I wonder how many people actually showed up for this. We should keep an eye on their schedule of events. I'm not saying that we should crash their little party, or interrupt their proceedings, but a good sized pro-Cardinals contingent may create some healthy open dialogue...

The heads of RACD know that the power of the group is in its numbers. “Just pitch in and we’ll do great.” Said Caldwell. The group has proposed Friday May 16th as an ASU awareness day. RACD is asking Sun Devil fans to wear any type of Sun Devil paraphernalia to work that day, so they can educate inquiring co-workers (especially the non-ASU fans) and contribute to the ongoing public relations battle on this issue. Ward said that the group is going to try and rally the governor and state legislators to exercise political influence on the valley’s NFL team to drop their suit.

Maybe everyone should wear Cardinals stuff around town on Friday and to work.

If Cards win Week 1 and are 1-0 all of those same people will be at SDS to see Emmitt and the take on the Seahawks in the home opener! Who cares. The best publicity is WINNING! that will take care of everything!

Go Cards/ America!

Man those people are hypocrites! I would wager that maybe 10% understand any of the legalities of the whole suit. They are there because they blindly support ASU or they simply hate the Bidwills. Or both.

While I agree with the general sentiment (winning cures all ills), I doubt that anyone is going to show up to see Emmitt that wasn't going to be there anyway.

I don't know if the Cards did some research on this or what, but as a method to put a significant number of observers (not fans) in the stands, I would think that getting Roosevelt Colvin and/or Terrell Suggs would have been a better method. To think that fans who would "boycott" the Cards over signage would "come back" because of a win against the Lions to sit in a crappy stadium in 115 degree weather in order to watch a Hall of Famer play out the string is pretty ludicrous. The fact remains that these people, in all likelihood, never really liked the Cards anyway, and weren't going to go to any games, and are now just going to bitch if someone brings up the Cards at whatever bar they're at. They just think that they have ASU's back on this one, and want to get their names in the paper.

Every table taken??? Did any one see the blurb they had on this on the news, there was like all of 15 people there at like 4 tables, yeah if your only given 4 tables to fill how hard is it to get every table taken. Give me a break!

Cardinals Suing ASU Over Contract Dispute
5/14/2003

The Arizona Cardinals are coming under public criticism for their multi-million dollar lawsuit against ASU.

“The morality of suing a public university when the public is paying for $350 million stadium that the Cardinals are going to make millions off of is not right,” says Brant Roberts who has formed the group calling itself ‘Residents against Cardinals Demands.’

The Cardinals are suing ASU for $21 million over a contractual dispute involving Sun Devil Stadium.

I guess if there is any 1 thing about this that pisses me off is if it was the other way around the Cards would still be the bad guys.... Paul Jensen (Cards PR) really has his hands full now...

HEY ASU PAY-UP & SHUT-UP!

HEY ASU PAY-UP & SHUT-UP!

That is patently ridiculous.

The Cards aren't suing the University, they are suing the Athletic department, and they actually haven't sued, they took the matter to arbitration.

These ASU supporters are getting more ridiculous as time goes by.

<p>Amazing how they gloss over the fact that the Cards are picking up the tab for 1/3 of the project even though they won't own it. And the public money they are talking about isn't coming from local residents unless they rent cars or hotel rooms. On KTAR this morning, they interviewed this Brant Roberts and asked him some pointed questions. One of the questions was---isn't this just Cardinal bashing? The guys answer was "oh no--we just want to make sure the public is informed of what's going on and force the Cardinals to back off of their claim". When the announcer read a quote from Fanboy blasting the Cards that he had taken off of their web-site, Brandt said that they wanted to present all sides so the public could make an informed decision, but you could tell from the inflection in his voice that he hadn't expected that question. Then the announcer (not sure who it was) asked if it wasn't true that an arbitrator had ruled in favor of the Cards and Brandt answered that that wasn't a final decision and that in fact the regent at ASU had said the Cards were not entitled to any money and he probably knew more than an arbitrator would (can you believe this). All in all, the interview didn't go so well for Mr. Brandt.

This the dumbest part of their entire argument. What the heck does a new stadium have to do with anything? What are they trying to say here, doing business with any public entity is a risk on your own part and contracts mean nothing? Public entities can easily break the contract and your an A-Hole if you try to remedy the situation?

ChiCard, Your a lawyer so I've heard. What's your take on this? I may have missed it since I've been out of town for the whole week.
